Police Probe Waste Management Practices

Japanese specialty steel maker Daido Steel Co. said its headquarters in Nagoya was searched by police investigating a possible breach of waste management laws. Its shares fell as much as 6.5 percent, the most in over a year.
Daido, which supplies the auto and electronics industries, said police in Gunma prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, lodged a criminal complaint against the company related to its management of steel slag, a byproduct of steel making.
Police have searched Daido’s Gunma plant and another facility owned by a unit in the central prefecture of Aichi, the company said in a statement to the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Daido is cooperating with the investigation, the statement said. Shares closed down 6 percent at 408 yen, their lowest level since December.

Suspect told police, 'I could not suppress my desire'
GUNMA (TR) – Gunma Prefectural Police have arrested actor Yuta Takahata for allegedly raping a female employee at a hotel in Maebashi City, reports TBS News (Aug. 23).
Early Tuesday morning, Takahata, 22, allegedly attacked the woman and forced her inside his room after requesting that a toothbrush be brought to him. In the attack, the suspect pinned the limbs of the woman down and sexually assaulted her. The woman sustained injuries to her right hand.
Takahata, who has been charged with rape resulting injury, admits to the allegations. However, he denies planning the incident. As to a motive, he told police, “I could not suppress my desire to see the woman.”
The suspect is the son of well-known actress Atsuko Takahata. Earlier this year, the actor appeared in the drama “Noboru Tachibana’s Memorandum of Youth,” which aired on public broadcaster NHK between May 13 and July 1.
According to the Takahata’s Twitter account, which is now set to private, he was staying at the hotel for a shoot for a film. On the day before the incident, the suspect was out drinking with staff members for the shoot, according to another report by TBS News (Aug. 23). However, he was not viewed as drunk, police said.
