タコメはたぶん間違いなく「タコ(メータ)グラフ」ですね。
「空く」つまりエンジンがアイドリング状態であるためタコメーターに振れがなく、
メーター表にジグザグした線のない空白部分ができることを「タコメが空く」と表現したのでしょうね。

今、訳している記事の写真のキャプションに、 On me'ead son というフレーズが出てくるのですが、どう訳したらいいのでしょう？
