"Out of the north calamity shall break forth" - Jeremiah 1:14
O my soul, my soul!
I am pained in my very heart!
My heart makes a noise in me;
I cannot hold my peace,
Because you have heard, O my soul,
The sound of the trumpet,
The alarm of war. (Jeremiah 4:19)
Terrible destruction is set to come upon Israel. Syria plans a surprise attack, emboldened by the success of the Hezbollah fighters against Israel. Bashar el-Assad openly calls for the destruction of Israel and puts his army on the highest alert possible. Syrian pilots sit in their jets on their runways, ready to take off. Nearly all sections of the Syrian population side emotionally with Hezbollah, calling for the re-entry of Syrian troops into Lebanon to join their fight against Israel.
The Pope's comments came on a visit to Germany
A statement from the Vatican has failed to quell criticism of Pope Benedict XVI from Muslim leaders, after he made a speech about the concept of holy war.
Speaking in Germany, the Pope quoted a 14th Century Christian emperor who said Muhammad had brought the world only "evil and inhuman" things.
The head of the Muslim Brotherhood said the Pope's remarks "aroused the anger of the whole Islamic world".
The Vatican said the Pope had not intended to offend Muslims.
"It is clear that the Holy Father's intention is to cultivate a position of respect and dialogue towards other religions and cultures, and that clearly includes Islam," said chief Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi in a statement.
But in spite of the statement, the pontiff returned to Rome to face a barrage of criticism from the Muslim world over the remarks, reports the BBC's David Willey in Rome.

Local officials said six children were among the
dead in the US air strike
Al Jazeera has obtained exclusive footage that confirms children were among the victims of a US air raid northwest of Baghdad. Local officials said that the bodies of 17 civilians, including six children and eight women, had been pulled from the debris of two houses in al-Ishaqi.
The US military had issued a statement on Friday saying that two women were among 20 suspected "al Qaeda terrorists" killed in the operation.
Al Jazeera's footage showed the bodies of men, women and children wrapped in blankets after they had been pulled from the rubble.

Japan gaffe minister 'must quit'
Yanagisawa: 'Realises he has offended women and men'
Opposition parties in Japan are pressing Health Minister Hakuo Yanagisawa to step down for calling women "birth-giving machines".
The Democratic Party and two smaller parties are threatening to boycott budget hearings in parliament if Mr Yanagisawa, 71, does not quit.
The Democratic Party called the remarks inexcusable and said they violated women's human rights.
Mr Yanagisawa has apologised for his comments, which he made at the weekend.
The gaffe has caused embarrassment to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, whose popularity is slipping and who has already had one minister resign over political funding.
Mr Abe has rebuked the health minister for his remarks, but has dismissed calls for his resignation.
Tackling birth rate
Mr Yanagisawa had told a local political meeting "Because the number of birth-giving machines and devices is fixed, all we can ask for is for them to do their best per head."
Japanese children are fewer and further between
On Monday he told parliament he would "make every effort in the Abe government to work out measures to solve the problem of the low birth-rate."
Prime Minister Abe has pledged to bring in policies that will tackle the falling birth rate.
Japan has the world's highest ratio of elderly to young people.
The trend raises serious concerns about the country's future economic growth and how it can fund its pensions.
It also has forced Japan to question its attitude to immigration.
