（２）newspaper : A newspaper is big sheets of paper with words printed on them.
It tells its readers what is happening in the world.
"paper"には「新聞」という意味もありますが、「紙」を表す場合は不可算名詞、つまり
"数えられない名詞"（uncountable noun）ですから、"a sheet of paper"「１枚の紙」や、
"two sheets of paper"「２枚の紙」と数えます。"two papers"と言うと、「二つの新聞」に
なってしまうので注意してください。"with words printed on them"は、"paper"にかかる
形容詞句。"with"を使った形容詞句や副詞句は英語では非常に頻繁に使われますの
で、ぜひ親しんでください。
（３）table : A table is a piece of furniture with a flat top and legs.
"furniture"は「家具」で、これも不可算名詞ですから、数える場合は"a piece of furnit-
ure"「一つの家具」、"two pieces of furniture"「二つの家具」、あるいは"some pieces
of furniture"「いくつかの家具」と表現します。なお、ここでも"with"で始まる形容詞句、
"with a flat top and legs"が使われています。
（４）cup : A cup is a container that you drink out of.
"that you drink out of"は"out of which you drink"と同意。A cup is a container to
drink out of. とも表現できます。
（５）family : A family is a group of people who are related to each other.
"be related to 〜"は「〜と血縁関係にある」を表わします。名詞は「親戚」を表す"relat-
ive"や、「親戚」「関係」を表す"relation"。"relative"は「比較的」を意味する形容詞でも
ある。"each other"は「互いに」を表す副詞句。
（６）window : A window is an opening in the wall that is filled with a pane of glass.
"opening"は「開口部」、"glass"は「ガラス」で、これも不可算名詞ですので、"a pane of
glass"と言います。"a glass"と言ってしまうと、「（飲み物用の）グラス（可算名詞）」になっ
てしまいます。"a pane of"は「１枚の（窓ガラス）」のこと。「２枚の窓ガラス」は"two panes
of glass"です。
（７）garden : A garden is a place where flowers and vegetables are grown.
"grown"は「栽培する」を表す"grow"の過去分詞。過去形は"grew"。
（８）roof : A roof is a part of a building that covers its top.
"cover"は「覆う」の意。
（９）taxi : A taxi is a car that you travel in and then pay the driver when you get off.
"a car that you travel in"は、"a car in which you travel"と同意。
（１０）subway : A subway is a train that runs underground.
