Brain Salad Surgery

I just saw “The Third Man” on video. Ebisu station on the Yamanote line is what inspired me to watch this great classic movie again. How so? For some reason, that station plays the zither theme from the film every time a train departs.
The Liverpool children's home that inspired the Beatles' hit song is to close, officials said Wednesday in providing a notice of two years.
The psychedelic single "Strawberry Fields Forever" was released in February 1967 with "Penny Lane" on the reverse side.
John Lennon wrote the song's dreamy lyrics about a time in his childhood when he lived near the Strawberry Fields orphanage.
The Salvation Army, which now runs Strawberry Fields, said the preference for placing children with foster families has reduced the need for orphanages. Only three youngsters remain at the home in Liverpool's Woolton district.
Lennon left money to the home in his will and in 1984 his widow, Yoko Ono, donated more than $70,000 to keep it open.

Hilary and Jackie (1998)
Emily Watson .... Jacqueline du Pré
Rachel Griffiths .... Hilary du Pré
Hilary and Jackie is a film that can be appreciated on many levels. The performances of Ms. Griffith and Ms. Watson as the title characters were superb, but so were the actors that played the parents and husbands, and the two young actresses playing them as girls were terrific. All the people in the film were interesting.
The film gives insight into the life of a musical genius with its rewards and triumphs as well as conflicts and sacrifices. There is also a psychological aspect at the heart of this film. From the beginning the two sisters have a bond, almost a symbiotic relationship, yet there is also intense competition. To make the presentation even more interesting the relationship is presented in two "acts", the first told from Hilary's perspective and the second from Jackie's. Whose is more real? Does it make a difference? The final scenes as MS is taking its toll on Jackie are gripping. Both actresses were deserving of their nominations. This was great entertainment!

(Chorus) God bless you, you make me feel brand new,
for God bless me with you, you make me feel brand new,
I sing this song 'cause you, make me feel brand new.
Today I saw somebody who looked just like you
She walked like you do, I thought it was you
As she turned the corner I called out your name
I felt so ashamed when it wasn't you, wasn't you
You are everything and everything is you
Ohh, you are everything and everything is you
Ohh, you are everything and everything is you
How can I forget when each face that I see
Brings back memories of being with you
I just can't go on living life as I do
Comparing each girl to you
Knowing they just won't do, they're not you

Two-part Inventions no. 1 and no. 2, by Evgeni Kissin (MIDI score)
These Bach-like pieces were written by the famous young pianist Evgeni Kissin (b. 1971) at the age of 12, perhaps as a composition exercise. They are most probably unpublished, and I sequenced them by ear from a live CD recording of his early concerts in Moscow, where he played the Inventions as encores.
