revealはVOOが取れないので
前置詞句で（"前置"詞でusの役割を限定した目的語句で）代替

universeを限定するancient and vastに追加で説明修飾がつくことで
その限定色が弱まり単なる説明と同様の位置(appositive並列関係)にシフトダウンする
（果たしてそういう感触をネイティブが持っているかはわかりませんが。。。）
it (= science) has revealed to us ... (what?)【"give us ... (what?)" に準ずる感覚】

少なくとも数学ではよくある技巧です。もっとも数学でも、
A → B という流れでないときは associate B to/with A のママのことも多いでしょう。
