We respect them, of course. But in turn, I wonder why you saw like that.
I assure everybody here simply doesn’t know what’s called Rengeteki, and wants to know how non-Japanese people love it.
Rather, it has happened because Touhou truly went beyond the boundary of nation, I think;
it couldn’t happen if non-Japanese people, not Japanese abroad students or emigrants didn’t love it.
We're happy to know things like that.
So, don’t mistake, please. We’re not laughing or attacking! Never!
By the way, I remember once they discussed the name of 非想天則.
It’s about whether “UNL” might well be used as the abbreviation of “Unconsciouss Natural Law”, the rough translation of “非想-天-則”.
That Englishlike or Europeanized name is very interesting & important to think about the gap between Japan & European metaphysics.
For example, one of the problems is that there’s no English word matched with “天”.
above: English
below: Japanese translation, in case my English isn’t easy to read
Oh, I see. That makes me feel better.
I noticed that Rengeteki's popularity was spreading very fast. In fact, some people on Walfas are already requesting that there be a Create.swf of her!
So I decided to check around the internet. I used Google, so of course the translation isn't going to be good. That may be part of the reason why I misunderstood.
See, I'm actually the one who came up with the name, and with the intention of it meaning "Mystic Lotus"(and Google's suckish translation of this site), I felt humiliated.
I used a kanji dictionary site, but since I'm not an expert with Japanese, it was difficult for me to make sure that I was creating the name correctly.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

The popularity vote of the Touhou character was done in Japan recently.
The result is the following. http://v.thwiki.info/vote7/result_char.html
If you feel like it, could you also performe the popularity vote?
We want to know which character is popular overseas.
Thankyou!
>>470
Will do! We have a Touhou Club on DeviantART, so I suggested it.
Mima is not as popular as the other characters according to those results...But it does make sense since she's a PC-98 character.
I find it funny that under 一押し, Cirno has 666~
>>473
I'm Japanese.
It's just coinsidence. If it turned upside down, it will be 999 hahaha.
Actually, this is the only thread in touhou community for sharing world news about touhou movements abroad.
We are very interested in foreign touhou fans like you!
But, we all are not so good at English to know what happens in outside world.
Foreingers in this thread are very valuable. Take it easy!
>>474
It's great to know that~
I'm sorry I can only speak English though. I'm afraid of what Google Translator might come up with if I use it to convert English to Japanese.
But it seems like most of you can understand enough of it to get what I'm saying. I wish it was like that over here...
If anything new comes up over here, I'll be sure to tell you!
Oh yeah, how would you pronounce "名無し"? I know that し is "shi", but I'm not sure about the first two...This is what you call Rengeteki, right? I thought it would be an interesting fact to put in the Touhou Wiki.
Ah, so I was on the right track.
And yes, Rengeteki is the nameless fairy. I think there's a link in one of the previous posts that leads to her page on our Touhou Wiki.
Actually Rengeteki is not popular... or she gets totally no attention in Japanese touhou community.
She appears in Lotus Land Story of PC-98 platform. Most of Japanese touhou players have not played PC-98 touhou games.
We don't mention at tiny nameless fairly, and we know it for the first time by checking Touhou Wiki.
The name "Rengeteki" is a little bit odd for Japanese. We guess it is Chinese.
We are discussing why she is named "Rengeteki" in >>453->>461.
For now we guess Rengeteki is the character Taiwanese touhou fan made, but we have no source for it.
Japanese really don't know about Rengeteki.
>>494
Yap, I use the word for the fact both "gaijin" & "gaikokujin" is slightly different having "gai".
"Gaijin-san" is usually rather used with friendly atmosphere than showing separation, distance.
Otherwise, you're not gaijin-san?
The argument of the differences between gaijin and gaikokujin is still meaningless.
I don't care either way.
>>494
I see you are American. I thought you were Westerner and that Rengeteki was the Taiwanese or Chinese fanmade character.
I still think it might be true.
Dear Hiromu,
I accept your apology regarding my music. Again, I am deeply sorry that some of my fans harassed and spammed your accounts the prior days.
Let me be clear that it would be very disappointing for you to suspend game development. I saw the video and it seems like you put alot of effort into your project.
Please continue your work so that touhou fans can enjoy your games.
Even if you feel uncomfortable using my music, from this point on I have no problem with you using any of my songs.
If you decide not to use my music material anymore, that is fine as well.
Take care,
KgZ
If possible, please relay to the developer that not everyone is as angry as some of the overreating people from newgrounds,
and there are tons of people looking forward to his game.
Let him know that even if he can not get the game done for R7 now,
we still would love to see it eventually, and please to not stop work on it.
If an agreement can be worked out with KgZ, it should even be possible to get it out at R7, but if not that's understandable.
But just let him know that it would be a real disappointment if he didn't finish it because it looked amazing.

I told him this, I think he realizes how most people feel now.
In the last email I got from the developer he said that he's happy people want him to continue production,
and that he wants to think things over, so give him a break.
He's embarrassed for having done what he did, even if it was just a misunderstanding.
Nobody wants to be labeled a plagiarist, that's a big no-no in both the western community and the Japanese doujin scene.
Apologizing and agreeing to cancel everything was probably the most mature thing to do on his part,
considering he wasn't quite sure what was going on and only knew that he had inadvertently pissed a bunch of people off.
If he came in with an aggressive stance it would have made negotiations difficult.
Anyway I'm going to bed now so I'll check this stuff again tomorrow.
Hope things work out for everyone involved.
BTW I don't usually use tripcodes but this is just in case some trolls decide to try and screw things up, this is 4chan afterall.
I probably won't hold onto this name after this stuff is over so don't get worked up over the trip please.
The engrish is really awkward, which makes it both funny and kind of distracting.
I've wondered why Japanese songs so often have English in them, and not even for things they don't have words for. They'll just randomly toss it in there. I? don't get it.
Yeah, I can understand that, of course. I took German and am sure my German accent is lacking, and I'm sure I mispronounce the few Russian phrases I know. Mostly I just wonder why they put English in their songs. I can't think of any other cultures that do that. You don't hear English songs with Chinese randomly thrown in, or Spanish? songs with Afrikaaans in them. ...Well, I haven't, at least. That'd be interesting though.
You can see the ID and find that I'm the same person as >>545. I'm Japanese who likes to browse the English sites.
Koreans also sometimes put English in their songs, but I've never see Chinese do that.
Songs with English lyrics are so stylish, but they are totaly for Japanese only and not for foreiners who listen to Japanese music.
I'm not sure what makes Japanese be fond of English in their songs, but we like them. They are cool.
Ah... an idea came to me that Japanese fit together with Japanese traditional music called Gagaku, but music today is
imported from Western world so not match for Japanese.
Lastly, Japanese is NOT goot at English as you think. They made best efforts to make some english lirics, and they didn't try to toss the words ramdomly.
Stop, both of you, ID:FAYfrw4.0 and ID:Y1g/Mq9g0,
(I suspect IKWaot/c0 & ID:FAYfrw4.0 is the same person, so I'll see so.)
look at the name of this thread, “Touhou Front Line of Abroad”.
The argument is suitable with it?
More of such posts will soon be what’s-called vandalism;
both opinions is right on some point,
but the exchange of opinions, especially about cultures,
can’t succeed without permitting the fact that cultures is on the people.
At least, "awkward", "crazy"... these are never appropriate for good talks about international topic
From the point that English isn’t the monopoly of UK or US people any more,
the former might well think that they are mighty to make other people use English and to use historically steady one.
And the latter that they take advantage to make it their unique one in certain way and to live in the larger language space.
This must be OK, and don’t think opponent is wrong and only you are right, because the basic environments are too different.
Turning around is easy, but understanding from another point is better.
OK, especially you, ID:FAYfrw4.0?
