Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II arrived Saturday at Japan's Osaka Airport on a first time visit, state run news agency MENA reported.
Pope Tawadros is set to open the first Coptic church in Japan during his visit.
The visit will be followed by a second stop in Australia, where the Pope will attend a number of Coptic activities in several Australian cities, as well as meeting a number of Australian officials.
On his way to Japan, Pope Tawadros had a transit stop in Dubai where he met a number of Egyptian diplomats as well as Coptic priests.
In May, the Egyptian Coptic Pope conducted a European tour that included Italy and the UK.
Unofficial estimates put the number of Coptic Orthodox Christians in Egypt at around 10 to 15 percent of the population. An estimated 1-2 million Copts live abroad, with large congregations in the US, Canada, and several European and Gulf states.
