Superconducting tunnel junction circuits can be manipulated in a quantum coherent fashion in a suitable parameter range.
Currently, they seem to be very promising for quantum state engineering and as hardware for future quantum computers ( in 2003 ).
We have discussed their modes of operation in two basic regimes, they are dominated by charges and magnetic flux.
We have to overcome several important constraints to realize a first useful quantum computer.
But, nano-electronic devices have several important merits as compared to other physical realizations of qubits.
