[AL-MUMENOON 23: 12-14] Verily We created man from a product of wet earth; Then placed him as a drop (of seed) in a safe lodging;
Then fashioned We the drop a clot, then fashioned We the clot a little lump, then fashioned We the little lump bones,
then clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators!
【岩波文庫版「信仰者」23:11-14】我ら（アッラー）人間を創造するには精選した泥を用い、
次にその一滴をがっしりした容器の中におさめ、次いでその一滴から凝血を作り、ついでその凝血から
ぶよぶよの塊を作り、その塊から骨を作り、さらにその骨に肉を着せ、こうしてようやく新しい生き物を産み出した。
ああなんと有難いことかアッラーは。ありとあらゆる創造者にまさる創造者におわします。

幾人かのイスラーム学究者は、上の章句の中に胎生学的事実を見出す。しかし我々が合理的な観点から
上の章句をチェックするなら、それは我々に違った意味とともに現れる。厳密に上の章句をチェック
しよう。最初の行は完全に間違っている。人間はどんな湿った土の産物でも無い。そのうえ、
クルアーンは他の章句において、基本材料の範囲について多くの一般的な感覚的意味の欠けた表明を
どっちつかずに断言する。例えば、時にはそれは我々が土から創造されたと告げ（11章61節）、
時には乾いた粘土から創造したと主張し（15章26節、28節、33節、17章61節、32章7節）、時には
「無から」であり（19章67節）、時には「無からでなく（NOT from nothing）」（52章35※訳注:別の訳を見ても、
ここでも「無から」の創造と主張されており、著者のミスと考えられます）、時には湿った土（23章12節）
あるいは泥（38章71節）からであり、時には水から（25章54節、21章30節、24章45節）からであり、
時には塵から（3章59節、30章20節、35章11節）、あるいは死者からである（30章29節※訳注：審判の場で死者を
引き立てる場面なのでこうした例としては不適切。39章6節※訳注：岩波版では「一つの魂」中央公論社版では
「一人の人間」、次いで伴侶（イヴ）の創造を語っており、人類の祖としてのアダムを指す。ここで挙げるには不適切）。
このうちのどれが真実だろうか？これらの相互矛盾したどっちつかずの表明は、実際には
正確に我々が何から作られたか、あるいは我々がいかに創造されたか、そのどちらかでも考慮する
どんな科学的事実も明らかにはしない。

上の章句の部分の残りを分析する前に、私は読者に有用な情報を引用したいと思う。
1982年に、トロント大学の解剖学教授キース・ムーア（Keith Moore）は
『人間の発達第三版（The Developing Human, 3rd edition）』と題された教科書を出版した。
ムスリム・コミュニティにおける、胎生学的事実とクルアーンとの関係付けは、大体はこれ以来開始された。
彼の本で、ムーアは胚の発育の進行がクルアーンで描写されることに驚きを表明する。
ムーアは単語「精液」を直接使う議論のもとで、この章句のユースフ・アリーの翻訳をとりあげた【参照8】。
