「コノハムシの化石は、それが擬態する広葉樹の出現より前の時代から発見されている。」
というのが、日本のネット上（？）でウワサになり、
進化論（自然選択説）否定者によって取り上げられたことがありました。

どうやらこれはガセだったようです。
コノハムシの属するナナフシ目は、かなり昔から存在するようですが、
おそらくはそれをコノハムシと勘違いしたことに端を発するのでしょう。
根拠は、英語の創造論系サイトにそれに類する話がまったく出てこないこと。
ぜったい、和訳したときに間違えたんだってば。

まあ都市伝説が発生した経緯については完全に憶測ですが、
ガセであることの決定的な根拠は今日見つけました。

訳：Phasmid（＊）が擬態する広葉の被子植物は白亜紀中期
　　（1億2500万年前－9000万年前、恐竜絶滅の少し前）なので、
　　コノハムシの“年齢”は最大でこのあたりとなるだろう。
　　しかし、
　　コノハムシが比較的早く、すなわち白亜紀に現れて
　　そのユニークな形態と行動を進化させるのに時間を食ったのか
　　あるいはもっと遅くに、すなわち始新世に現れて急速に進化したのか
　　科学者たちはまだ確信をもっていない。
（＊）Phasmid自体はたぶんもっと昔からいるみたいなので
　　　ここではコノハムシの先祖となるphasmidのことだと思われる
