Karen Brazell氏の翻訳（ The Confessions of Lady Nijo）を確認したところ、玄輝門院が「東の御方」として登場していた時期から、すでに「Lady Genki」にしてますね。
欧米で『とはずがたり』に言及する人の大半は Karen Brazell氏の翻訳一冊だけしか読んでいないのですが、１９７３年の時点で彼女が全訳を出したことは確かに偉業ではあるものの、荒っぽさ・強引さは否めないですね。
参考までに粥杖事件の部分を引用してみます。

On the day of the Full-moon Gruel Ceremony,events occurred that were almost more than we women could bear: Not only did His Majesty beat us severely, but he then summoned his attendants and had them strike us too. This annoyed me, and so I connived with Lady Genki to retaliate on the eighteenth by beating His Majesty in return. On that morning, while GoFukakusa was finishing his breakfast, we assembled the ladies in the tray room and assigned each of them to a station. The ladies Shindainagon and Gonchunagon were placed at the door to the imperial bathing room; Betto and Kugo remained outside; Chunagon went to His Majesty's living room; and Mashimizu was stationed in the corridor. Lady Genki and I stood chatting in one of the end roomｓ.
“His Majesty is certain to come in here,isn't he?" she asked nervously. Then,just as we had expected, he entered the room, dressed informally in wide-legged trousers. His Majesty was blissfully unaware of what was about to happen.
“What's this? There doesn't seem to be anyone in my room. Is anybody here? "??At this moment Lady Genki seized him. “Oh, that hurts. Is nobody here? Someone help !” he called, but no one came.
Morotada was immediately outside the room and made an effort to come to GoFukakusa's aid, but Mashimizu, who was standing guard in the corridor, told him that we were busy and that he would not be allowd in. Seeing that she was armed with a stick, he turned and fled.
While this was going on I beat His Majesty so soundly that he apologized profusely and made a solemn vow: “Never again will I order others to strike you.”
