Son Heung-min 8/10
Son Heung-min set up Spurs’ second with a precise low cross for Dier, who deftly headed past Gavin Bazuna. The South Korean, who knocked a few errant passes, was by no means at his sharpest. He held on to the ball too long at the tail end of the first half when he should have provided for Harry Kane who was in acres of space.
However, Sonny was still a thorn in the Saints’ side.
Heung-min Son – 7 – On the ball, Sonny was full of running and got into some great areas, but he wasn’t able to shake off that pre-season rust in front of goal as he wasted a few key scoring chances. Worked his socks off though.
Heung-min Son - 8/10
Son made a bright start to the game and came close to scoring midway through the first half. However, moments later he delivered a brilliant assist for Eric Dier to score from. He played four key passes and attempted four shots in a bright attacking display by Spurs. He also won four of his six chances.
Son Heung-min: 7/10
Like strike partner Kane, Son was not at his best against Southampton. But last season’s Golden Boot winner slowly grew into the game and made his mark by providing the assist for Dier’s goal. He still has some way to go before he becomes the fearsome attacker he was in 2021/22.
Son Heung-min – 7 Shot straight at Bazunu during a rusty start, but recovered quickly by slinging in a brilliant cross for Dier’s header. Not the outstanding display of his Spurs career to date, but played his part in an incisive collective performance.
Eric Dier (Tottenham)
Much has been said about the prospect of Tottenham challenging for honours this season and possibly the title. Well, I'm not going to get carried away with one performance, but I will concede they do look promising. Dier scored his first goal in three years and seems more comfortable in a Tottenham shirt than I've seen for some time.
He has never been in the same class as Virgil van Dijk, Ruben Dias or Antonio Rudiger. However, if Spurs are going to be serious about challenging for top spot, then Dier is going to have to produce some pretty spectacular performances this season.
Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham)
What a brilliant acquisition by Antonio Conte to bring Kulusevski to Spurs. This player has been a revelation since he arrived from Juventus in January, scoring five times and providing eight assists last term.
And he continued in that vein, setting up Ryan Sessegnon's opener and then scoring himself as Tottenham blew Southampton off the park.
However, the issue for Tottenham is can they win a trophy? Any trophy? This club seems to have lots of legends, but very few who have ever won anything. This squad of players would do very well not to join that category.
Dejan Kulusevski
Occupying the right of our midfield is Kulusevski, who scored a lovely left-footed strike in Tottenham's 4-1 home win against Southampton on Saturday. He's been some signing for Spurs, finding the net six times since joining the club on loan in January.
"Apart from going 1-0 down, a bump in the road, Spurs have been superb," Glenn Murray told Final Score. "They've scored four goals with some free flowing football.
"Kulusevski has been the stand out player and [Harry] Kane and Son [Heung-min] not on the score sheet, who expected that? I'm sure some FPL fans out there will be very disappointed. Really good by [Antonio] Conte and a great afternoon for Tottenham."
Right-back: Emerson Royal – Tottenham
After being beaten far too easily in the build-up to Southampton’s opener, the right-back recovered to have a major influence on the game going forward.
Emerson was heavily involved in the action as Spurs came from behind to win 4-1 against the Saints, with the Brazilian forcing the north London side’s third goal with a low cross that Mohammed Salisu could only slice into his own goal.
The right-back then raided forward again to tee up Dejan Kulusevski for the fourth, with the Swede bending home a fine finish following Emerson’s cut-back into space.
Right-wing: Dejan Kulusevski – Tottenham
A brilliant opening weekend performance from Kulusevski who started as he finished last season, scoring one and creating another as Spurs thrashed Southampton.
The Sweden international produced a brilliant cross for Ryan Sessegnon to head home an equaliser, before putting the finishing touch on a 4-1 win for Antonio Conte’s side with a trademark curling effort after cutting inside from the right flank.
A threat all afternoon, the 22-year-old proved he is up for the challenge of competing with summer signing Richarlison for a place in the side.
The time has come for our first highest-rated XI of the new Premier League campaign! 👇
Newcastle United and Tottenham are the only two sides with multiple players featured, while Fulham’s star striker Aleksandar Mitrović is our Player of the Week! 👏👏
🇰🇷🏴🇸🇪 We're watching the dawn of another legendary attacking Premier League trio 👀
Each member of Tottenham Hotspur's front-three lead the way in the league for 'most goal involvements' since February 2022, when Dejan Kulusevski made his debut for the club. 🔥
Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham) - 8.59 rating
Dejan Kulusevski continues to go from strength to strength under Antonio Conte and he stars in the Premier League team of the week after a stand out display for Tottenham against Southampton. The Swede provided the assist for Ryan Sessegnon's first half equaliser, and then got on the scoresheet himself late on to wrap up the 4-1 victory, those coming from respective returns of three key passes and two shots.
Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 8.11
The second Tottenham man in the Premier League team of the week, Son Heung-Min bagged his first assist of the campaign in Spurs' 4-1 win over Southampton, turning provider for Eric Dier on the half hour mark. Son's assist came from one of four key passes, and he was clearly desperate to get that first goal, too, mustering four shots to feature on the left.
5. LB: Ryan Sessegnon (Tottenham)
Early in the first half of Spurs' 4-1 win over Southampton, Antonio Conte screamed at Ryan Sessegnon for not attacking the last line from a cross. Five minutes later, he followed his boss' orders and grabbed their equaliser, his first Premier League goal for the north Londoners.
Sessegnon gave former teammate Kyle Walker-Peters plenty of headaches and proved he is ready to challenge Ivan Perisic for a starting spot this season.
8. AM: Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham)
Only formidable teammates Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have more Premier League goal contributions than Dejan Kulusevski, who somehow only scored for the first time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
The gangly Swede breezed past Southampton with considerable ease time and time again, eventually getting his reward with a deserved goal and assist.
RB: Emerson Royal
With Matt Doherty still recovering from injury and Djed Spence not yet ready for Premier League action, Emerson Royal was offered the opportunity to impress, and did just that as Tottenham ran out confident 4-1 winners over a hapless Southampton side.
The Brazilian grabbed an assist and forced an own goal in an all-action attacking performance for the Lilywhites.
RM: Dejan Kulusevski
Dejan Kulusevski continues to catapult his name into lights in north London, and ran Southampton ragged as he helped Spurs get off to a winning start in their first full season under Antonio Conte.
The Swede provided the cross for Ryan Sessegnon’s headed equaliser, before he completed the rout by netting the fourth goal just after the hour mark.
Ryan Sessegnon (TOT)
"Scored with a great header and produced a solid all-round performance as he stole an early march on Ivan Perisic in the battle for the starting spot at left wing-back."
Dejan Kulusevski (TOT)
"A superb opening day for the winger and his team, continuing his excellent form from the end of last season with another goal and assist."

Eric Dier
Spurs were rampant on Saturday, despite going a goal down. There were plenty of top performances in there, but it was Eric Dier that stood out for me. His goal was right out the top drawer, one Harry Kane would’ve been proud of. And he was solid all day long as well. On his day, he’s a top player.
Dejan Kulusevski
Dejan Kulusevski. Now, let me tell you, this lad can play. I don’t think he wasted one ball on Saturday, a constant threat down the right-hand side. He’s got an assured touch and always looks confident. He was the best player on the pitch at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and took his goal beautifully. He’ll be in my Team of the Week a lot this season, that’s for sure.
