A Filipino woman has been arrested for allegedly smuggling 4.16 kgs of cocaine into the country.
Narcotics Suppression Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Atitep Panjamanon held a press conference Monday to announce the arrest of Icoy Betlehem Mamontong, 32.
She was arrested at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport upon arrival from Lima, Peru.
Atitep quoted her as saying she was hired for US$4,000 to deliver the drug to someone in Vietnam.
Lop Buri - The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in collaboration with relevant officials rescued 10 Laotian women from a prostitution ring late Monday night.
The officials are now pressuring the ring's leader Wiroj Sukpitak to surrender, and trying to locate where other victims have been hidden.
The rescue operation took place after two Laotians managed to escape from Wiroj and altered the Social Development and Human Security Ministry about their ordeal.
These victims said Wiroj had forced many female Laotians into prostitution.
The Thai government needs to speed up work to establish a single visa among Asean members and the 10-country group's six dialogue partners to enhance tourism within Asia, according to former tourism minister Weerasak Kowsurat.
"The presence of single visa in Asean that covers 10 countries plus six partners - China, South Korea, Japan, India, Australia and New Zealand - would be a big boon to intra-Asian tourism," said Mr Weerasak, who is now the director of the International Institute for Trade and Development (ITD).
