I just saw “The Third Man” on video. Ebisu station on the Yamanote line is what inspired me to watch this great classic movie again. How so? For some reason, that station plays the zither theme from the film every time a train departs.

Viewing Daisy Miller alongside The Last Picture Show should be a standard part of the film school curriculum as it tends to debunk the auteur theory. Bogdanovich's career gives truth to the contention that film is an industrial process and each movie has many "authors," not just one (the director). If the auteur theory were true, Bogdanovich arguably would have returned to form eventually and produced more good films, if not another masterpiece.
The Last Picture Show. It is Peter Bogdanovich's greatest film, and probably always will be. The comparisons with Welles' magnum opus Citizen Kane are both ironic and justified.
Bogdanovich tells the story of a conversation he had one time with Welles, where the great director was rhapsodizing over the late Greta Garbo, of whom he was a tremendous fan. Bogdanovich remarked, "You know, I agree with you, but isn't it too bad that she only made two really, really good pictures?" And Welles looked at Bogdanovich for a long time, finally replying, "Well, you only need one."

蓮っ葉だけど根は純情な女を演じてたけど、そのときに比べてなんか悪人面になってて驚いた。これは演技なのか、はたまたメイクのせいなのか(w
