An improvised bomb blast on an Alexandria train wounded at least nine people, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported late on Thursday.
Egypt’s railway authority said in a statement that the wounded included a child who is in a “critical condition."
The blast occurred in a carriage of a train carrying passengers between Abo Qir village and Sidi Gaber, a suburb of Egypt’s second biggest city.
Thursday saw a number of small bombings, marking the anniversary of the army's ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last year. There were also clashes between security forces and Morsi's supporters in various parts of the country.
Egypt's Railways Authority halts night services at 11 railway lines, apparently due to security concerns
Ahram Online , Sunday 25 Jan 2015
Egypt's Railways Authority will close 11 secondary railway lines at night until the end of January, reported Al-Ahram's Arabic news website.
The head of the authority, Ahmed Hamed, said the move is to "safeguard the lives of passengers."
Hamed cited incidents of explosions at train stations, including one in the Nile Delta city of Zaqaziq which affected railway services there.
He cited 17 reports of "suspicious packages" on railways and in stations last Friday, a day of heightened anti-government protests.
Sunday marks the fourth anniversary of the 2011 revolution against Hosni Mubarak. A number of anti-government protests marking the date were reported over the weekend.
The railway closures will take place from 5pm to 6am daily.
An improvised bomb attack in Egypt on Friday temporarily halted trains between Cairo and the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, but left no casualties, security officials said.
A home-made bomb went off near the city of Damanhour, some 70 kilometres from Alexandria, director of security Maj. Gen. Mohamed Fathy said.
The blast left no casualties, he said, but caused damage to the railway line, bringing train movement to a halt for around three hours.
Railway lines are frequently targeted by anti-government militants operating in Egyptian cities.
Bomb explosions in Kafr El-Zayat in the Nile Delta briefly halted Cairo-Alexandria trains in February.
Similar attacks also disrupted services in the southern city of Aswan and in the Nile Delta city of Zagazig the previous month.
No casualties were reported in relation to the incidents.

Inauguration of a new channel of the Suez Canal takes place on Thursday
Ahram Online , Tuesday 4 Aug 2015
Egypt's Transportation Minister Hany Dahy has said that Egyptians will be able to use railways services for free on Thursday, on the occasion of the inauguration of the "new Suez Canal" waterway.
In a television interview on Saturday, Dahy said that it was a gesture of thanks to the Egyptian people who had financed the digging of the new waterway in only seven days -- a reference to the LE64 billion-worth of Suez Canal bonds used to finance much of the project.
Metro services in the governorates of Cairo and Giza will also be free from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, the minister added.
The capital's underground metro stations have already begun to celebrate the coming ceremony, by broadcasting patriotic songs on their internal radio stations.
The new Suez Canal waterway, an extension to part of the existing Suez Canal, will be inaugurated on Thursday by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. Global figures are expected to attend the event.
Seats in the Cairo-Alexandria train's VIP section will cost LE100
Karim Abdel Kodos , Saturday 8 Aug 2015
Egypt's national rail service will trial a new, partially Egyptian-made train on Saturday afternoon, sending the train on a test-run between Cairo and Alexandria.
Nagwa Albeer, the spokesperson for Egyptian National Railways, told Ahram Online that the train is the first train that has been produced with “greater than 50 percent Egyptian contribution” to operate on the country's railways.
The fully air-conditioned train is the product of a joint manufacturing project between the state-owned Arab Organisation for Industrialisation and a Chinese company, which made the train body.
The new train also has a VIP section where seats on the Cairo-Alexandria route will cost LE100, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.
The rest of the tickets run at LE65 a piece.
Ahmed Hamed, the head of Egyptian National Railways, told Al-Ahram Arabic website that the train will not be in service until technical evaluations of its safety have been completed.
Saturday afternoon's trial run will take place without any passengers.
Egypt has suffered a number of costly train accidents in recent years, often attributed to the outdated equipment and infrastructure.
In 2013, six train crashes took place in Egypt, leaving dozens killed and injured.
The country's worst train disaster took place in 2002, when a fire aboard a train headed from Cairo to Aswan killed 361 people.

The Railway Authority announced on Tuesday that train ticket bookings will be available online for the first time, using national IDs.
Each ID will be permitted to book up to four tickets per day, Railway Authority Chairman Ashraf Raslan stated.
Tickets will be offered through an application named “TransitENR”. It will allow passengers to register their data, choose their seat, and pay online through Visa, Master Card, or instant charge cards sold by the Railway Authority.
In providing an electronic booking service, the Transport Ministry hopes to eliminate the hassle of in-person purchases ahead of Eid-al Adha, while confronting ticket sales on the black market by having new tickets include the passenger’s name and ID number.
The Railways authority has recently announced a “state of emergency”, cancelling the vacations of its key staff ahead the vacation, due to a predicted heavy turnout of passengers.

Egyptian Railway Authority on Monday set ticket prices for the new Russian Cairo-Aswan train at LE85, compared to LE28 for SEMAF trains.
The two new trains will operate from Cairo to Aswan starting September 15.

The trains will move from Cairo at 9:30 am starting September 30, and return from Aswan at 11:30 am starting October 1.
The authority has also rescheduled 21 special and developed trains.
The Egyptian Railways Authority back in August raised ticket prices for TOP VIP vehicles from LE300 to LE375.
These air-conditioned wagons are considered to be the most luxurious vehicles operating on Egypt’s railway lines.
According to a Youm7 report, the cars are manufactured at the SEMAF factory of the Arab Organization for Industrialization in Egypt.
The TOP VIP cars, which operate on Upper Egypt’s train lines, were given to the Railway Authority in 2016 and 2017 as part of a shipment of 212 air-conditioned cars. They were manufactured within Egypt through cooperation with a Chinese company, and feature a local component rate of over 40 percent.
The authority owns five luxury cars, currently operated daily under the railway VIP system.
