The purpose of this class is to correctly understand very basic idea of economics written in English. For effective development of students' English ability as well as Japanese one especially for overseas students, translation into Japanese is required.
At the first class, students are classified into groups with a couple of students such that each group contains both Japanese and overseas students. Each group is assigned a part of text to be translated. Each part is assigned to two or three groups. The volume of each assigned part may be counted around 20 pages.
Not only a group in charge but also every student is strongly required to translate the text at least three times. First translation should be grammatically correct, not necessary to be fluent Japanese. The assigned groups have to present the translation of their part in charge in the class. After examination and explanation of the contents of the text in the class, the responsible group has to review the first translation and retranslate it each sentence one by one at home. After completion of full text translation, each group has to revise its second translation with fluent Japanese. It is a duty in the second term. The final version has to be submitted with an electronic device and/or file transfer by e-mail as a qualification of this class.
