Hello everyone. Today we’re going to take a look at a commonly found mistake using singular and plural. Listen to these examples, “We are a happy kid,” “We are happy kids.” Of course the only correct answer is the second one, “We are happy kids.” Why is this? Why does the first sentence sound a little bit strange? The reason is that, for the native speaker, “we” has a very strongly plural sense. The idea of “we” being broken up into individual parts, which one(?) then, lead to the use of the singular after it as in “We are a happy kid,” would just never come to mind. Why? Because it lacks the balance required. We, plural, are happy kids, plural. Balance is the key.
