It really must have been much simpler,
if each of THEM has a wound in the back of his neck,
as is in the movie "Invaders from Mars(1986)" made by Tobe Hooper.
But instead of that, I think, we can tell it by his eyes.
That is, if you get skilled somehow,
it is not difficult to know if he is a free man or not by his eyes,
because a brainwashed man never has glows of will in his eyes.
