独特な臭いが鼻をつく大麻の煙。アメリカに来てから何度嗅いだことだろう。
最初にこの臭いに気付いたのは、赴任して間もない頃、自宅でシャワーを浴びていた高校生の娘だった。
「どこからか変な臭いがする。」と訴えられ、臭いの元を辿ると、どうやら洗面室の換気口からきているようだ。
経験上（使用ではなく仕事の）、大麻の臭いであることはすぐに分かった。
ニュージャージー州でもニューヨーク州でも娯楽用としての使用は合法化されていない（2019年当時）はずだが、アメリカだから仕方ないのかなと大して気にも留めなかった。
そろそろ何とかせねばと考えていた頃、「アパート内でマリファナ（大麻）の使用を確認した場合には警察へ通報します。」と書かれた管理人によるビラが各部屋に配られた。
他の住民も臭いに辟易していたのだろう。
CNCTは先月提出した訴状の中で、加熱式タバコ装置「IQOS」を宣伝することでタバコ広告禁止法に違反したとしてフィリップ・モリス・フランスを告発した。
