アナトリア半島(トルコのアジア部分)に存在した王国プリュギア(フリギア)で崇拝され、
のちに古代ギリシャ・ローマにも信仰が広がった大地母神である。
アニヲタ的には『機動戦士Ζガンダム』および『機動戦士ガンダムΖΖ』に登場するMS「キュベレイ」が有名であろう。
