ジーンは自伝『Kiss And Make-Up』において（1970年代の日本の雑誌のインタビューでは歌舞伎の影響があったことを話しているにも関わらず）、メイクが歌舞伎から発想を得ている事を否定している。ちなみに、ジーンの怪獣型ブーツはゴジラがモデルである。
邦題によく「地獄」と付く事でも有名。2ndアルバム「Hotter Than Hell」に最初から「地獄のさけび」という日本語のタイトルが付けられていたことがきっかけとなったのか、後に初期の作品が日本においてまとめて発売された際に、「地獄」とは何の関連もない原題のアルバムにまで「地獄の…」という邦題が付けられることとなった。ことステージにおけるジーン・シモンズの過激なパフォーマンス（口から火を噴く、血に似たものを演奏中に突如吐き出す、あるいはワイヤーアクションによって宙を舞う）の鮮烈さも相俟って、ややもすると的を射た意訳であると解釈される場合もあるが、しかしジーンが上述の自伝の中で述べている限りではステージで行われる数々のパフォーマンスはあくまでも「ショウにおけるアトラクション」という位置づけにあるようだ。
代表曲「デトロイト・ロック・シティ」に象徴されるように特にデトロイトで絶大な人気を持つが、バンド自体はニューヨークで結成されており、デトロイト出身ではない。同じく代表曲「I Love It Loud」の最初のメロディは日本でも馴染みが深く、浦和レッズのサポーターによるチャント「ウォリアー」の原曲となっている。また全日本プロレスなどに参戦したプロレスラー、スティーブ・ウィリアムスの入場テーマ曲でもある。
ちなみに、キヤノンのカメラ「EOS Kiss Digital」の2005年 - 2006年のCMで、西洋人の子供4人（男の子2人，女の子2人）が顔にKISSのペイントをして、歌詞こそ違えど「ラヴィン・ユー・ベイビー（I Was Made for Lovin' You）」を歌うというものが放送されていた。
【AFP】マリリン・モンロー（Marilyn Monroe）と謎の男性とのわいせつ行為を撮影した15分間の映像が14日、150万ドル（約1億5000万円）である実業家に売却された。ニューヨーク・ポスト（New York Post）紙が報じた。
