Hi!
I started to read the new book and I must say it is one of the most interesting, exciting books I have read so far about modern Japanese politics. I think that this book should be read by all those who would like to find out where Japan has come from and where it is going. Dr. Fujiwara, although a trained geologist by profession, is utlizing an effective approach through which he was able to diagnose today's Japan and its ills. The Japanese version, which has the name of the politician as part of its title, I thought it was focussing a bit too much on the person himself. I understand that this was probably also necessary in order to appela to the masses and sboost sales. Luckily Dr. Fujiwara has taken the right step to take the politician's name away from his world edition, which I find was the right thing to do. However, after having just about finished reading Chapter 1, I have come to appreciate or, understand the significnace of this politician and the need to understand the current Japanese
political, economical and social demise in the context of the family history of this man.
For those who have found about the book and are wondering whether to read it or not, I would like to refer to the last few lines at the end of the chapter:
"The history of the Koizumi family’s three generations mirrors the rise and fall of Japan. In the Meiji period, when modern Japan was being built, the first generation made his way into politics. Throughout the failed military invasion of Asia and the reconstruction of the country during the Showa period, the second generation climbed the political ranks. And now, after the burst of the casino economy’s bubble and during Japan’s slide towards death in the Heisei period, the third generation is prime minister. The three generations of the Koizumi family constitute a tumultuous trilogy. And with this third episode starring Junichiro, my conclusion is that the true identity of the man who calls himself the destroyer of the LDP is the destroyer of Japan."
Well, I must say that sadly, the current state of things are that Japan "has been destroyed" and what we see today are its final shadows cast on the horizon just before a settling sun. Sad indeed - however, given the low level of Japanese public, it is, I guess, inevitable.
By the way, since now there are Korean and World editions of the book available on the bookshleves, the hosts or administrators of this blog could open up or extend this forum to a wider, more international / global audience and community.
Japan’s rewriting of history is callous and contemptible. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,542-2314776.html

Spotlight Reviews
Though Japan still has the world’s number-two economy, the Rising Sun is setting because of political incompetence and corruption. Japanese politics today is controlled by zombies.
The Liberal Democratic Party, which did whatever it wanted in its fifty year monopoly on Japanese politics, was in its last throes at the end of the twentieth century. But with the inauguration of Prime Minster Koizumi Junichiro and his zombie cohorts in 2001, this party has come back from the dead. Since then, a darkness reminiscent of Walpurgis Night has crept over Japan. Japan’s national debt has reached nearly a trillion dollars while zombies have simultaneously protected vested interests and failed to make necessary reforms. Zombies have also misled the Japanese people about their shady pasts.
It would be bad enough if Koizumi was an isolated case. Unfortunately, he is just one of modern Japan’s many zombie politicians. Koizumi, whose own family parallels the rise and fall of modern Japan, is copy cat of the ultra-nationalistic Kishi administration (1957-1960). Under Koizumi and his likely zombie successors, Japan is showing ominous signs of neo-fascism.
This book reads like a novel. But it is far more interesting. It is a not only a true documentary but also the first full behind-the-scenes story of modern Japan’s political circles. No journalist to date has written this hidden story of Japan’s political secrets.
It is difficult to understand and diagnose modern Japan’s maladies. We need a broad viewpoint of civilization from a bystander’s vantage point along with Dr. Fujiwara’s psychological, pathological, and historical insights.

Faust:
I’ve studied all Philosophy,
Medicine, Jurisprudence too,
Also, to my grief, Theology;
Yet here I stand, poor fool! What more
Not one whit wiser than before!
I’m Master, Doctor, and I’ve found
For ten long years, that I chose
I’ve led my students by the nose,
First up, then down, then all around,
To see that nothing can be known!

その「Tragedy of …」
Japan’s Zombie Politics
The book reads like a Tolstoy novel with so the introduction of many characters that cause much confusion to an English-reading audience due to the multitude of unfamiliar Japanese names・・・という書評の書き込みがあったのを読み、自分で考えたことのない日本的な状況について思い当たり、日本という国の持つ名前の特殊性に気がついた。
Japan’s Zombie Politics
