Hwang In-beom is reportedly in a lawsuit against Olympiacos over the contract period. His transfer could end the conflict, but no club has come out yet to pay the transfer fee Olympiacos wants. https://twitter.com/KORFootballNews/status/1696033078601457727

Harry Kane makes the side for the 1st time since moving to Bayern, but he can't beat Jonas Wind's 9.2 rating, with the Wolfsburg man keeping his place from Matchday 1.
Leverkusen are the best represented side with four players.
Bayern are seriously considering including Harry Kane in the team council, which so far consists of Neuer, Müller, Kimmich, Goretzka and Coman. Lucas Hernández also repeatedly took part in the meetings before he left the club. Kane is already indispensable for Bayern on the pitch and in the dressing room
Harry Kane: "I really enjoyed everything about Munich so far. The weather was a bit of an English weather yesterday, which is nice. The people have been amazing, the fans have been great. The atmosphere in the stadium was great. So far everything has been good" [@kicker] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696483793345859725
Kane on the Champions League: "It's going to be tough for sure. There are some great teams in Europe at the moment. We need to keep working, keep improving. We got a fantastic team good enough to win the Champions League, but there's still a long way to go. The groups will be announced next week, and then we focus on that and try to perform in every game we play" [@kicker] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696485382446064006
Bayern are keen to sign Scott McTominay from Manchester United, either on loan or permanently. Thomas Tuchel, in particular, wants the Scottish midfielder. United want £35-40m (€41-47m), too expensive for Bayern. The English club would be willing to negotiate and have identified Pierre-Emile Højbjerg as a potential replacement
Chelsea have received an enquiry from Bayern Munich for Conor Gallagher. It remains uncertain if Chelsea will listen to offers for Gallagher before the transfer window closes [@talkSPORT] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696513888873783371
No deal currently close between Bayern and Trevoh Chalobah. It may end up happening, but the German champions are assessing a variety of options at the minute [@NizaarKinsella] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696524073340399924
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge speaks in detail about the signing of Harry Kane: "We all agreed in our transfer committee from day one that we wanted to make this transfer happen. Everyone then had their task, mine was to keep in touch with Harry. I talked to him a lot and immediately realized what a good guy he is. I had the first contact when he was still on vacation in the Bahamas. I texted him telling him that I would like to talk to him on the phone and he answered within two minutes, which is not the norm in the WhatsApp world"
Rummenigge: "I told him: We will do everything for this transfer to happen because we are all convinced that you are the most important man in the entire transfer market for us. I also told him about my own transfer to Inter in 1984. I had everything at FC Bayern, I was practically the king, but I still wanted to gain this new experience abroad - I told him that it wasn't an easy transfer for me either." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696530055726506341
Rummenigge: "Harry Kane was a must do transfer for us for a number of reasons. At the end of the day, during the negotiations, I also said to Jan (Dreesen) that I'm completely open: 10 million euros to the left or right should not stop this transfer. Because, in addition to his footballing quality, Harry Kane brings back a very important fact for us - hierarchy!" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696530110835556494
Mathys Tel's agent Gadiri Camara: "During the first conversation with Salihamidžić and Neppe, we made it clear that we were not looking for a well-paid contract, but for a home. Mathys has always loved FC Bayern. If you have a winning mentality, you have to love Bayern" [@kessler_philipp, @mano_bonke] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696533048865771843
Javi Martínez understands Tuchel's wish to sign a holding midfielder: "Bayern always have the ball and attack with many players at the same time. The problem is that this creates a lot of space for dangerous counterattacks by the opponent. That's why I believe that Bayern urgently needs a player who always keeps an eye on these possible dangers. Someone who does not always help offensively, but also thinks about what to do if the ball is lost. Pep Guardiola called this style of play 'defending with the ball' – in other words, looking out for possible gaps and counterattack chances even when you're in possession of the ball"
Martínez on Kimmich: "He's a fantastic #6, but he stands out offensively. That's why Tuchel wants him to focus more on creating than destroying. It was similar to when I was with Schweinsteiger. With Luiz Gustavo and me behind him, Basti was able to concentrate on the offensive side. Apparently, Tuchel also wants a player who thinks more defensively than offensively, because there isn’t one in the current squad. Goretzka and Gravenberch are very attacking midfielders" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696546062729654436
Thank you, and good luck at Inter, Benjamin Pavard! 👏
Bayern signed him for €35m in 2019 as a World Cup winner and sold him now (4 years later) for €30m + €2m add-ons with 1 year left on his contract - good business.
Always been a reliable player for us and extremely underrated. He won the Sextuple in his first season. Really like versatile players like him who can play multiple positions. One of the best CB’s in the world in a back 3.
📊 Pavard’s Bayern career:
🏟️ 163 games
⚽️ 12 goals
🎯 12 assists
🏆 10 trophies:
4x Bundesliga
2x German Supercup
1x German Cup
1x Champions League
1x FIFA Club World Cup
1x UEFA Super Cup

Bradley Barcola wants the move to PSG. Negotiations with Lyon could go down to the wire, but French champions are pushing to get it done. 20-year-old fits PSG's 'buy young, buy French' strategy.🇫🇷 https://twitter.com/JacobsBen/status/1696843641543639337

Barcola will travel to Paris later tonight, medical on Thursday.
Luis Campos wanted him since June — deal now done.
Bayern are set to launch a transfer bid to sign João Palhinha. Fulham insist they will not sell their Portugal international unless they receive a 'mammoth bid', having turned down a £60million offer from West Ham in July [@NizaarKinsella] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696837867945746819
Trevoh Chalobah wants to make the move to Bayern. Personal terms not an issue. Talks ongoing between clubs. All parties hopeful to conclude a deal before the deadline
❗️More on #Palhinha: Yes, he’s a new candidate for #FCBayern as reported via @altobelli13. Tuchel wants him now!
Details:
➡️ Bayern in talks with Fulham/player‘s management
➡️ Understand there’s no official bid yet
➡️ When West Ham inquired, Fulham quoted a price of £60m => Been told it’s too much for Bayern!
➡️ A loan is not an option for Fulham & coach Silva wants to keep him.
Eric Dier is not a hot topic at the moment, but not completely off the table either. The Englishman is not Thomas Tuchel's first option. He's an alternative to Palhinha [@Plettigoal] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1696923951677554879

Kim on his previous experiences in China, Turkey and Italy: "In China I came up against really strong strikers - I was able to improve my one-on-one skills. In Turkey, they often employed spatial defending, which helped me in that respect: when do you drop back, when do you get forward? In Naples, both options were required because Italy is very flexible tactically. I was able to implement my game there. At the time, the coach also demanded that I get involved in attack. That season in Serie A was the best test of stamina so far: The level in the league is high, the World Cup last December meant we almost permanently had weeks including midweek games and had to stay permanently focused. The fact that we became champions made me very proud." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697157758313767050
Kim Min-jae in interview with the club's magazine #Säbener51: "FC Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and very popular in South Korea. I've always watched FC Bayern - but if someone had told me back then that one day I would wear this jersey, I would never have thought it possible, of course. It's a huge honour. I'm living a big dream and I know I have to give everything every day to make sure it lasts." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697156416904081857
Kim: "Homesickness was never an issue for me. I like to be alone and concentrate on the here and now. It also helped that my wife and child went with me. They're now here with me in Munich. The family gives me support and peace. That's where I draw a lot of my strength. Family stands for stability" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697157861237801314
Kim on his goals at Bayern: "I'm currently focusing on one single goal: Being able to be on the pitch in every game. Feel free to ask me again in January, then we can talk about new goals" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697158109058261201
Nasser Al Khelaifi on Mbappé: “We have had very good discussions with Kylian, he's a magnificent player, as a person and as a professional”, told RMC 🔴🔵
“We've had discussions with the rest of his family. New deal? I don’t want to talk about that. Mbappé is PSG player”.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is a candidate for sale. The Cameroonian has been relegated to third choice striker behind Harry Kane and Mathys Tel. Saudi Arabia could be a destination for Choupo-Moting [@cfbayern, @altobelli13] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697354557028802722
Wilfried Ndidi's agent held talks with Jan-Christian Dreesen, but Bayern turned down the chance to sign the Nigerian midfielder as they're convinced Palhinha is the right choice [@cfbayern, @altobelli13] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697364050621931870
Thomas Tuchel on Palhinha: "I can't say anything yet. If I said something and then he doesn't join us, I'd have spoken about a player not under contract with us. It's still a few hours away. We're trying to complement and strengthen our team. It's exciting and will remain exciting" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697544177918050371
Tuchel on the #UCLdraw: "We have an attractive and tough group. There are no easy opponents in the Champions League. Every group game is difficult. Manchester United is a real force with a great stadium. Copenhagen has a young coach. Galatasaray had a great window and has a special atmosphere. These are very attractive opponents. The Dortmund group is the toughest group on paper." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697544606785667536
Tuchel on the winless run against Gladbach: "We don't believe in runs when they go against us [laughs]. It can happen that an atmosphere doesn't suit us. We go to Gladbach as favourites and want to win. We want to build on our game against Bremen and the second half against Augsburg. We have to do our thing and keep creating lots of chances. We have to play with our principles. You also need some luck in the game. It's in our own hands." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697546328660750783
Tuchel on the personnel: "It's still to early for Jamal Musiala. We're not taking any risks. Minjae Kim had cramps in his calf, it tightened up. But I'm expecting the green light from him and the medics for tomorrow" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697546628972916974
Tuchel on whether it would've been better to keep Stanišić: "Yes, you could argue that. The decision doesn't look fortunate for us now. When we made the decision to let Stani go, there was no offer for Pavard. There's a big gap in the position" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697547226778599628
Tuchel on Gravenberch's imminent departure: "He's a box-to-box midfielder for me, an attacking player. The main problem for him is that we don't really play with a #8 in our 4-2-3-1 system. And we're spoilt for choice up front, with really experienced players. Ryan is a very nice, hard-working, committed player. He wasn't happy with his situation. He sees the chance in Liverpool to fight for a place at #8 in a 4-3-3. He's wanted to go for a while. An offer came in and we discussed it. It's not done yet, but the outcome is clear." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697547708469223836
Tuchel on the right-back position: "We're trying to close the gap in a short space of time. We have Konrad Laimer who can play there. We're still trying to change things. If it doesn't work out, we need to be flexible." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697548453323116943
Tuchel on Leroy Sané's form: "Leroy is very positive right now and enjoying being out on the pitch. He's happy with himself. He then needs to be someone who dominates the league. Also in terms of stats with goals and assists. He's no longer a young prospect. He's a nice, kind guy. It's very important that he feels good. That's the case right now. And we'll do all we can to keep it like that. He has to keep it up" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1697548889992167792
Tuchel: "Matthijs de Ligt and Thomas Müller are edging closer. Their fitness is improving and they could start. There will always be tough choices. When you sign for Bayern, you have to always be ready. Not everyone sitting on the bench deserve to be there. But you sometimes have to put egos aside. You should push your teammates. Both are absolutely ready to start. The squad is very small right now. We'll need everyone. We'll decide after the final training who plays."

Thomas Tuchel: "The squad is thinner than before. We'll see what we can make out of it and do our best. It's a good squad, but it's a bit short in some positions"
On Palhinha: "I was sad because I knew how much João Palhinha wanted to join us and what the player would have given us. I don’t know what exactly went wrong."
AUSGLEICH!
Kimmich was criticised only to drop this insane chip pass to assist Leroy Sané.
Never disrespect Kimmich. He carries this dead midfield all by himself. You’d miss him a lot if he got injured. Top 3 most important players in the team.
Joker. #BMGFCB @FCBayern https://twitter.com/OptaFranz/status/1698042417486643248
Well done Thomas Tuchel 👏🏻! Laimer and then Tel, two substitutions that won us the game.
You can see that he's starting to make better use of his squad and their strengths. It wasn't the most fun to watch, but a crucial win before Leverkusen and Man UTD.
Note: 3.
4. Kim Min-Jae
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - MORITZ NICOLAS (GLADBACH)
The 'keeper enjoyed an excellent evening. He may not have ended up on the winning side, but he did threaten to lead his side to a surprise victory with some excellent saves throughout.
Fulham coach Marco Silva on Palhinha: "It was a tough day for him, definitely, probably one of the toughest days of his life. He loves Fulham, he loves football, he loves to be with us. He had the fantastic season last season and he’s always a player that gives 100% for the shirt but he had a big chance to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world and he was really close.
You can imagine the impact that has on a football player when these type of things happen. He is going to need support from all of us – the coaching staff, our fans and his team-mates"
Thomas Tuchel on Palhinha: "I was sad because I know what he would have added to our team. He was sad and disappointed. We'll speak again about what happened. Everyone did what they had to do, but it was too late in the end" [@SkySportDE] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1698054281813721484
Thomas Müller: "Today was fun. We had a bit of a headache in the ten minutes after conceding the goal - I had the impression that the close decisions went against us. But then we recovered well and controlled the game. I think the win was deserved" [Sky] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1698056960908615808
Müller on not being called up to the national team: "I knew beforehand that I wasn’t called up, so it wasn't a big surprise. I'm trying to do my best here at FC Bayern. I'm feeling very good now after the difficult pre-season. But German football is not dependent on Thomas Müller. If I'm called, I'll contribute. I'm relaxed" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1698057678516261370
Konrad Laimer: "It was a deserved win. We kept on trying until we got rewarded. The most important thing today was the three points, so we can be relaxed going into the international break"
On playing at right-back: "Let’s put it this way: I just enjoy playing. The coach decides whether that is in midfield or right back. I prefer to be on the pitch, regardless of my position. I was brought in to bring energy onto the pitch, I think I did that well"
Tuchel: "There's no update on that. No point thinking about that now either. He plays for Fulham, and we play here without him. I don't know, things can sometimes change. Nobody can predict that"
Thomas Tuchel : “The first half was a bit tough. In the second half we were more fluid, more aggressive and dominant. We were also very dangerous in the opposing penalty box. It was an important win today. We played the best half this season. We created enough chances and deserved to win. Three wins at the start is very good. It feels good, we had good energy."
"I’m happy with the team’s reaction. There were a lot of background noises yesterday"
Tuchel on the squad: "There's a bit of an imbalance. Offensively, we have two players in almost every position. Defensively, we might need a bit of luck. Konny (Laimer) had to play at right-back in the second half today as Nous was in serious danger of receiving a second yellow. Then in the end we had to bring in Matthijs as the second #6. I have no doubts over the performance of the squad. But the fact is that we only have six defensive players, that's a bit on the edge" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1698061954022085006
Tuchel on Leverkusen after the international break: "I think the scheduling on Friday evening is a bit tough for both teams. We both have a lot of international players and it's a top game for the Bundesliga. I would have preferred to play on Saturday." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1698062403370389692
Tuchel on Musiala being called up despite his injury: "That was agreed upon. We didn't want to take any risks today and Jamal is continuing to train with us individually. He will definitely miss the first (Germany) game and, if everything goes well, travel to the national team for the second game." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1698063133762273660
Joshua Kimmich : “It was a deserved win today, especially in the second half we put a lot more pressure and had one or two good chances. Gladbach had more chances in the first half and it was important that we reacted. We made some changes, things went well. It was good for us to win here." [fcb] https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1698063747896500392
Leon Goretzka : "A lot of things were good today. The goal conceded was brutally unfortunate. We didn't let that get into our heads and kept our rhythm going. It’s good that we rewarded ourselves and finally managed to win here again." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1698064371249725627

PSG doing Ugarte for £52m early on is top business after the prices of other midfielders later in the window. 22 years old, top ball-winner, good short recycler of possession, can get himself out of trouble by carrying.
🏟️29 matchs
⚽️30 buts
Vitinha, Asensio, Hakimi 2
Mbappé looks perhaps the most likely player in world football not called Erling Haaland to pick up the mantle of the game's best now that former PSG teammate Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are entering the twilight of their careers. His turn of pace and composure makes his finished look so effortless, and he is clearly enjoying playing in a fluid front three having been the point of the attack last season.
L'HOMME DU MATCH
Manuel Ugarte (PSG).
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - MANUEL UGARTE (PSG)
Mbappe got two, Donnarumma made saves, but Ugarte was the orchestra's conductor, as Paris performed their trademark symphony.
Breaking up play, often on his own as Zaire-Emery and Vitinha, the two free eights, bombed forwards, the Uruguayan was the heartbeat of this new-look side, knitting the thirds together.
It was his early energy that won the penalty, hustling and harrying Tolisso, and his brilliant through pass that set Asensio away for the third goal.
A complete display from an exceptionally talented prospect.

Xavi Simons
Xavi Simons was already one of the best attackers in Europe last season with PSV Eindhoven, and just a few months on he is now a Paris Saint-Germain player on loan to RB Leipzig. Simons looked dangerous against Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup and while he wasn’t at his best against Bayer Leverkusen in Leipzig’s first game, he came back with a vengeance. Two goals and three assists in the next two games followed, and all of them were showcases of his technical brilliance. His goal against Union Berlin last week in particular was gorgeous, calling to mind a certain Marco Reus circa 2014. Simons is a combination of the explosiveness that Red Bull attackers are bred to inculcate and the gorgeous technical ceiling that can only really be cultivated when a player is exposed to the Dutch and FC Barcelona systems.
7. Kylian Mbappé
With every season that passes, Paris Saint-Germain feed even more ungodly amounts of cash to Kylian Mbappé, and like clockwork, Mbappé somehow keeps justifying the price tag. After a 0-0 draw with Lorient showed PSG’s complete lack of attacking threat, Mbappé was brought back into the fold. A second toothless PSG attack saw Mbappé introduced with half an hour to go, and he scored an equaliser. In the following two weeks, Mbappé has followed it up with back-to-back braces, taking his tally to five for the season. What a player.
3. Leroy Sané
If this list were about players based on how ‘good’ they play aesthetically, Leroy Sané would be at top spot by a mile.
The German winger is turning on the style once again, with quick exchanges and unbelievable dribbles through multiple defenders at will, as well as a cannon of a left foot from range. Sané has been painfully unlucky, hitting the woodwork in every game he’s played this season but despite that has three goals and a forced own goal, which should say enough about how productive he has been. Sané has been Bayern Munich’s wildcard, constantly making dangerous runs to drag defenders to and fro, and has combined this with some tight link-up play with Noussair Mazraoui on the right. He has added track back energy, including some insane sprints like the one where he made notable speed demon Timo Werner look like he was stuck in first gear. Immaculate technique, immaculate work rate and unbelievable performances.
20Kim Min-jae (Napoli)
2022-23: 18 clean sheets, Serie A winner
Kim Min-jae proved to be one of the best signings of summer 2022. He immediately looked at home in Italy and helped Napoli end their painful wait for a Serie A title.
Although Napoli's attacking stars have attracted the majority of the plaudits, Kim's influence cannot be understated. The perfect modern defender, his blend of technique and physicality provided Napoli with the idea platform to romp to the title.
Had South Korea upset the odds at the World Cup and advanced past the round of 16, Kim - who has since joined Bayern Munich - would have had a strong chance of moving up this list.
19Harry Kane (Tottenham)
In 2022-23: 40 goals, nine assists, captained England at World Cup
Despite Tottenham enduring an utterly miserable season, Harry Kane still delivered the goods for his side.
He ended the campaign with a stunning 30 Premier League goals, which would have been enough to win the Golden Boot if it wasn't for the record-smashing antics of a particular Norwegian.
His World Cup wasn't perfect, with his heartbreaking penalty miss against France in the quarter-finals a case in point. However, he still netted twice in the tournament, as well as laying on three assists. Not quite enough to claim the Ballon d'Or, but still a stellar year.
3Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)
In 2022-23: 55 goals, 14 assists. Won Ligue 1.
Kylian Mbappe himself believes he has done enough to win the Ballon d'Or in 2023, and it isn't difficult to build a case for him to do just that. He scored over 50 goals for club and country, won yet another league title, and won the Golden Boot at the World Cup after scoring a hat-trick in the final.
However, coming up short in Qatar and the lack of a deep Champions League run is likely to cost him what feels like an inevitable first Ballon d'Or this time around,
Manuel Ugarte (PSG, cote MPG : 13)
Marco Asensio (PSG, cote MPG : 14)

24. Marquinhos
Marquinhos arrived at Paris Saint-Germain as a teenager with much hype around his potential.
He's switched from central defence to defensive midfield and back again, becoming the lynchpin as PSG dominate - for the most part - in France.
Now entering his peak years as a defender, Marquinhos is only improving with age and is a vital presence at international level with Brazil.
23. Dayot Upamecano
France are well stacked in central defence and Dayot Upamecano is among their top options thanks to his strength, speed and anticipation.
The centre back is always on the lookout for the right pass forward to get Bayern Munich moving, having impressed under Julian Nagelsmann at former club RB Leipzig.
18. Cristian Romero
Tottenham fans quickly fell in love with aggressive right-sided Argentina international Cristian Romero.
A fiery tackler who links up well in possession, Romero won Serie A's defender of the year award for his displays with Atalanta before joining Spurs.
Now a World Cup winner, Romero is key for Tottenham.
17. Matthijs de Ligt
When Ajax looked to be storming towards the Champions League final in 2018/19, it was Matthijs de Ligt performing like a colossus at the back as a teenager that caught the eye.
The talent is undoubted and though the Dutchman's progress stalled at Juventus, his move to Bayern Munich is bringing the best out of him.
6. Kim Min-jae
Fans around Europe took notice of the indomitable Kim Min-jae as the South Korean led Napoli's defence in their 2022/23 Scudetto triumph.
Having now secured a move to Bayern, the Bavarians now have one of the world's best on their books.
Kim vs. Tah
Jamal Musiala receives his Bayern 2022/23 Player of the Season Award

Thomas Tuchel is currently not a big fan of Matthijs de Ligt's style of play. The opinion is that the Dutchman is slow in the build-up, with too many sideways passes and few vertical line breaking passes. Kim and Upamecano are currently ahead. De Ligt knows what he has to work on, knows that Tuchel expects more from him and is ready to take on the competition. Within the club's bosses, de Ligt is appreciated precisely for this fighting spirit
Tuchel is trying to improve his players so I don’t see the issue. I rather have a coach like this than somebody who thinks all his players are perfect.
De Ligt will also get enough playing time now with 7 games in the next 4 games. We shouldn’t overreact.
Tuchel isn’t wrong: De Ligt simply has other strengths than passing, although he’s one of the best CB’s in the world.
Especially Upamecano is very good on the ball so he’ll always start. With Upamecano and Kim we have 2 other world class centre-backs that deserve to play after De Ligt was injured in the last few weeks. Competition is good for the team.

21. Guglielmo Vicario
Italian goalie Guglielmo Vicario has done things the hard way throughout his playing career but a fine season with Empoli earned him a move to Tottenham.
He's been in great form since arriving in the Premier League.
19. Yann Sommer
Yann Sommer's move to Bayern Munich from Borussia Monchengladbach when Manuel Neuer got injured stunk of a lot of what's wrong with the Bundesliga in the modern age.
Bayern's monopoly on the division helped them pick up a consistent performer in Sommer, who was brilliant for Switzerland at Euro 2020, as Neuer's temporary replacement.
11. Gianluigi Donnarumma
Now this lad has a bright future.
After leaving boyhood club Milan for Paris Saint-Germain, Gigio's future looked to be carved out. He finally usurped Keylor Navas as PSG's undisputed starter and was a key part of the Azzurri team which won Euro 2020, also being named player of the tournament too.
Some poor years since including disastrous mishaps in the Champions League see him drop out of the top ten.
10. Yassine Bounou
Morocco international Yassine Bounou - commonly known as Bono - has emerged as one of the finest stoppers in La Liga since his move to Sevilla.
He performed heroics as his side won the Europa League in 2020 and also enjoyed a wonderful 2022 World Cup as Morocco reached the semi finals.
6. Manuel Neuer
Manuel Neuer played a big role in the reinvention of the modern goalkeeper and he remains one of the very best sweeper-keepers in the business today.
He's only got a few years left and a skiing injury saw him ruled out of the end of the 2022/23 season, but he should be back to his best soon enough.
25. Serge Aurier
Serge Aurier seemed just as dazed and confused as everyone else during his Tottenham days and a season with Villarreal didn't hint at a bright end to his career.
However, he has stood out during Nottingham Forest's return to the Premier League, leading their defence with some measured displays.
22. Pedro Porro
The right-back has really shown how good he is in the first few weeks of the 2023/24 season under Ange Postecoglou.
He's one of the best attacking full-backs in the world.
20. Noussair Mazraoui
After being in and out of the Bayern team last season, Mazraoui has become a regular recently and for good reason: he's very very good.
9. Benjamin Pavard
The World Cup winner has consistently been one of the better full-backs in Europe for quite a while now.
Having recently joined Inter, expect Pavard to continue to prove his worth in the coming seasons too.
8. Giovanni Di Lorenzo
Giovanni Di Lorenzo is one of the most underrated right backs in the world. He has been a mainstay in the Napoli team for over three years and will go down in folklore as their Scudetto-winning captain of 2022/23.
Di Lorenzo is a regular for Roberto Mancini's national team and is certainly one of the best full backs Serie A has to offer. He's an aggressive and robust defender and performs a conservative but imperative function when Napoli have the ball.
He can contribute in every phase and has certainly taken his new leadership role in Naples with ease.
4. Kieran Trippier
From Burnley to Madrid, England international Kieran Trippier has had quite the career path.
Trippier is back in the Premier League with the enriched Newcastle United and the full back played a key role in their Champions League qualification.
The diminutive right back is a stellar technician whose ability from dead ball situations once catapulted an entire nation into a state of utter jubilation. Gareth Southgate has often favoured the versatile and reliable Trippier over perhaps more talented individuals for the Three Lions.
2. Achraf Hakimi
Achraf Hakimi's union with Antonio Conte at Inter was nothing short of a match made in heaven. The Moroccan wing back was the missing piece to the demanding Italian's jigsaw as the Nerazzurri claimed the 2020/21 Scudetto with Hakimi starring.
However, he was forced to take his exploits elsewhere as Inter endured a mini exodus ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. Paris Saint-Germain came calling and Hakimi returned to playing in a back four.
Hakimi is a ridiculous athlete who boasts track speed, while his decision-making with the final pass is improving. His attacking prowess is complemented by a sound defensive repertoire too.
1. Kyle Walker
Mauricio Pochettino played a pivotal role in Kyle Walker's development.
The England international was as raw as they got before Poch arrived at White Hart Lane and the stoic Argentine's guidance helped Walker evolve into one of the world's most complete right backs. You don't survive in Pep Guardiola's meticulous system for so long if you're not any good.
Walker, whose recovery speed and technical security remain crucial to his success, has played a key role in City's reign of Premier League dominance. The England international is no longer relied upon in the final third as much and is instead tasked with shunning opposition counter-attacks and ensuring City can establish a numerical superiority in midfield when they have the ball.
He stepped in at crucial moments during City's treble winning campaign and will firmly be regarded as one of the finest full backs England has ever produced.
18. Mario Rui
There have been occasions in recent history where Mario Rui has looked like Napoli's biggest fool, but he was important in their 2022/23 Scudetto charge.
Contributing seven league assists, Rui did have to battle Uruguayan Mathias Olivera for the left back spot during the second half of the campaign.
13. Raphael Guerreiro
There aren't many full backs as dynamic as Raphael Guerreiro. The diminutive Portugal international is so fun to watch.
Guerreiro stands out with his efficient work in the final third but he's also an exceptional ball-carrier. He's the epitome of a modern-day full back with his positivity in possession crucial in ensuring Dortmund get up the pitch.
While there are physical shortcomings, Guerreiro boasts the defensive nous to ensure such drawbacks are minimised. He's the latest Dortmund star to be pinched by Bayern Munich.
9. Destiny Udogie
Italian flier Destiny Udogie is the talk of the Premier League right now.
The full-back has become one of Tottenham's best players overnight, causing havoc with his burst in the final third and quality on the ball.
6. Nuno Mendes
Young Nuno Mendes endured a pretty turbulent debut campaign in Paris, often deployed in a flat back four by Mauricio Pochettino.
The Portugal international had excelled as a wing back at Sporting CP and started the 2022/23 campaign brilliantly with Christophe Galtier switching to a back three.
Despite his youth, Mendes is a league champion in two different countries and has all the makings of a superstar. He is as explosive as they come and his pinpoint crossing ability means his output should increase soon.
He's relentless down the left flank and his attacking threat must be consistent with the futures of PSG's forward stars up in the air.
1. Alphonso Davies
When Bayern Munich were crowned European champions in 2020, Alphonso Davies was on top of the world with many regarding the likeable Canadian as the best left back on the planet.
Davies' rise was brought to a halt when he was diagnosed with myocarditis following complications with COVID-19. He's back now, though, and looking to reclaim his status as the world's premier left back.
He stands out in almost every statistical category. He relentlessly contributes in the final third, aids Bayern's ability to progress the ball down the left, and he can dominate defensively.
Davies is physically imposing and one of the quickest players in world football. His recovery running is something to behold.
24. Rodrigo Bentancur
Juventini laughed at Tottenham for acquiring Rodrigo Bentancur in January 2022, with many supporters never forgiving the Uruguayan for his error against Porto in a Champions League knockout tie the previous year.
The Lilywhites were the beneficiaries of Juve's willingness to sell and Bentancur has since blossomed into a star in north London. An elegant performer in the middle of the park, the Uruguayan transformed Antonio Conte's midfield at the start of the Italian's tenure. He takes responsibility in possession and is mightily effective without the ball.
He seems to have garnered a second wind after parting ways with the Old Lady and Spurs have greatly missed his presence after he suffered an ACL tear at the start of 2023.
13. Konrad Laimer
Just like almost every other Bundesliga star that doesn't play for Bayern Munich, Konrad Laimer was destined to join the Bundesliga champions at some point.
It's hard to know just how transformative a signing he will be given Bayern regularly mop up the best domestic talent, but the Austria international ran the show for RB Leipzig for six years and has been likened to N'Golo Kante which is high praise indeed.
12. Yves Bissouma
Former Brighton star Yves Bissouma was regarded as a super signing by Spurs during a window which was meant to catapult the Lilywhites to a new realm with Antonio Conte in charge.
However, the midfielder's debut season in north London was tough. His first few appearances in Conte's midfield were sub-par and it seemed as if he never quite garnered the trust of the Italian before his injury setback.
Nevertheless, Bissouma's talent is undeniable and we've seen how good he can be this season under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
11. Manuel Ugarte
PSG won the race to sign Manuel Ugarte during the summer, and it's a signing that could be truly transformative for the club's midfield.
The 22-year-old is one of the best ball-winners around.
8. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa
That Fulham Anguissa? Yes, really!
Everything came together for Napoli during their 2022/23 Serie A title winning season. Luciano Spalletti's midfield was weighted perfectly, with Anguissa perfectly balancing defensive contributions with clever forward runs.
7. Joao Palhinha
The top tackling player in the Premier League last season, it's fair to say that Fulham wouldn't have stayed up without Joao Palhinha.
They're very fortunate to have him on the books for another season after his move to Bayern Munich fell through.
2. Joshua Kimmich
Joshua Kimmich is one of the most versatile top level players in the game today. There's very little he and his Bayern side can't do, evidenced by their 2020 Champions League success and continued Bundesliga dominance.
Much of that has been down to the German's brilliance at the base of midfield, ticking things over and breaking up play on an unprecedented level.
24. Marco Verratti
Watching Marco Verratti in the build-up phase is nothing short of an exhibition. The composure he emanates even in the most hostile of environments up against the fiercest of presses is staggering. He backs himself to wriggle out of any situation, bypass any opponent. More often than not, he succeeds.
But Verratti isn't a midfielder merely reliant on his outrageous technical quality to thrive. The diminutive Italian is a gritty defender who loves to dive in - he's partial to a booking or two, that's for sure.
Verratti is an amalgamation of some of Italy's great midfielders from yesteryear. He boasts Andrea Pirlo's serenity, Daniele De Rossi's grinta and Gennaro Gattuso's combativeness.
Injuries have prevented the midfielder from reaching the absolute apex of the game, and he looks set to never really do that now that he's off to Qatar to continue his career.
20. Stanislav Lobotka
One of the key ingredients to Napoli winning their first Serie A title in 33 years, Stanislav Lobotkas has long been an underrated midfielder in Europe. The 2022/23 campaign has alerted more people to his talents.
His strength lies in quick passing of all ranges. The Slovakian is metronomic and just sprays the ball around the pitch with complete ease, promoting comparisons with Luka Modric.
He is a small player, meaning he won't win you headers in midfield, but he can turn and dribble out of difficult situations very easily.
15. Christian Eriksen
Christian Eriksen's arrival was an incredibly smart piece of business by Manchester United as he joined on a free transfer from Brentford in 2022.
Considering his health issues, there were concerns Eriksen would not be able to cut it at the top end of the Premier League anymore but he has proved those doubters wrong.
Erik ten Hag has deployed Eriksen in a deeper role alongside Casemiro, allowing him to compensate for a lack of pace with his incredible passing range and immense intelligence.
The Dane was key for Man Utd all season in 2022/23, scoring twice and getting ten assists. He has overcome a serious health issue to return to his very best.
14. Leon Goretzka
Leon Goretzka's transformation from lean and skinny to mean and mighty helped him morph into one of the world's most destructive midfielders.
The Germany international certainly isn't the cleanest of technicians but is incredibly effective at what he does. He times his runs into the box superbly, while he's an indefatigable runner out of possession.
Goretzka's a one-man pressing juggernaut and played a starring role for Hansi Flick's all-conquering Bayern during the 2019/20 season. Injuries have slowed him down somewhat in recent times but he remains one of the world's most powerful and unique midfielders when he does take to the field.
4. Luka Modric
With just over ten minutes to go in their Champions League quarter-final tie against Chelsea, Real Madrid were heading out despite claiming a 3-1 victory on the road in the first leg.
Then, Luka Modric happened.
The Croatian innocuously picked up possession midway through Chelsea's half before picking Rodrygo out at the back post with the most audacious of outside-of-the-boot passes. The technique was obscene, while the touch and precision of Modric's instinctively crafted 'trivela' allowed the Brazilian to finish first time with aplomb.
That sequence sparked Los Blancos into life amid their whirlwind of a journey to Champions League glory last season.
It was Modric's fifth European title and the described assist epitomised the Croatian’s quality. He's one of a kind and still arguably the world's finest.
10. James Maddison
Leicester's dismal 2022/23 season shouldn't detract from just how good a footballer James Maddison, their former chief creator, is.
It wasn't always plain sailing for Maddison at the King Power, with Brendan Rodgers happy to underutilise the Englishman due to his lack of defensive nous and sub-par work rate. However, he has evolved in these regards over the past couple of years to become one of the Premier League's most efficient playmakers.
He's a risk-taker in possession; a player that gets the crowd on their feet every time he receives possession in the attacking third. His new home is at Tottenham, who are crying out for some creative ingenuity, and Maddison seems is a perfect fit.
9. Xavi Simons
Having been exceptional for PSV Eindhoven, Xavi Simons earned himself a move PSG during the summer and then a loan move to RB Leipzig to test himself at a slightly higher level.
At said 'slightly higher level' Simons has excelled - to say the very least. He's been the best player in the Bundesliga this season thus far.
8. Thomas Muller
The original Raumdeuter.
Thomas Muller's proficiency at picking gaps meant an entirely new role was created in homage to the slippery German. Muller is a one-of-a-kind footballer.
He can finish off chances like a ruthless number nine, create for others with the utmost subtlety and interpret space akin to Galileo. Muller certainly isn't the most aesthetic of attacking midfielders, nor does he excel technically, but he's so incredibly effective at what he does.
Muller remains a crucial part of a dominant Bayern side and is one of the very few footballers to master an utterly unique function.
5. Jamal Musiala
England and Germany fought it out for the right to have this teenage sensation represent them on the international stage.
Jamal Musiala had played for the Three Lions at various youth levels but is German-born and quickly racked up over 20 appearances for Hansi Flick's side at just 20 years of age.
The teenager has already established himself as a bona fide star in Munich with Bundesliga tyrants Bayern, scoring the goal that helped his side pip Borussia Dortmund to the title in 2022/23.
Musiala can perform multiple roles but excels in an attacking midfield position due to his instincts in and around the box. He's an excellent dribbler, while his movement in the final third is Thomas Muller-esque.
4. Antoine Griezmann
Antoine Griezmann's all-round talent makes him a viable option to play anywhere in attack or midfield.
The Atletico Madrid and France star impressed with his defensive contributions during the 2022 World Cup and his attacking numbers have shot up again, hitting double digits for goals in La Liga in 2022/23 for the first time in two years.
25. Bradley Barcola
A recent big money signing for PSG, Bradley Barcola is a name which you'll hear more and more in the coming years.
He's dynamism out wide is hard to find.
14. Angel Di Maria
Manchester United spell aside, Angel Di Maria has been playing at an elite level for over a decade.
His game has had to evolve as he reaches the twilight of his career, but the Argentine is still one of the best right wingers in the world.
At PSG, Di Maria played the supporting role. He couldn't compete with Kylian Mbappe's productivity nor rival Neymar's majesty with the ball, but he ensured PSG's ego-laden attack was balanced and played an underrated role in their journey to the 2020 Champions League final.
He's now back at Benfica after a brief season with Juve.
12. Dejan Kulusevski
Juventini laughed in the faces of Spurs supporters when Fabio Paratici dragged Dejan Kulusevski out of Max Allegri's prison in January 2022.
Kulusevski, or Deki as he's commonly known in north London, was nothing short of a revelation after joining in January 2022, helping the Lilywhites claim a top-four spot by the season's end.
His ability to retain possession under pressure, glide beyond opponents and seemingly always make the right decision in the final third means he slotted seamlessly in at Tottenham. His second season was disappointing but Kulusevski remains a sublime player to watch and one with an innate feel for the game.
10. Federico Chiesa
Federico Chiesa's stellar Euro 2020 campaign with Italy thrust the electric winger to the forefront of these sorts of discussions.
Chiesa was once a precocious talent at Fiorentina before Juventus came in with an irresistible offer in 2020. It took some time for the Italian to settle in Turin, but he exploded down the stretch of the 2020/21 campaign which set the tone for his career-altering summer.
Chiesa is equally brilliant off both flanks, excellent on the counter-attack, runs in behind at will and is now a wise decision-maker in the final third.
9. Leroy Sane
It's pretty tough to judge how much Leroy Sane has developed since swapping Manchester City for Bayern Munich.
His total goal contribution output has been steady since his arrival in 2020 but the Germany international is yet to completely dominate at the Allianz Arena like Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski have in recent years.
That said, he remains a creative threat from out wide and can deliver devastating shots from distance with his left boot.
7. Ousmane Dembele
Ousmane Dembele is one of the most gifted footballers in the world but injuries and inconsistency have prevented the Frenchman from reaching the stratospheric heights he was once destined to.
His time at Barcelona has been incredibly frustrating but Xavi's appointment offered the enigmatic winger a beacon of hope. The former midfielder recognised Dembele's unordinary talent and made him a key part of his team last season.
Despite this, Dembele opted to up sticks and take his talents to PSG during the summer.
5. Serge Gnabry
Germany international Serge Gnabry was once the most feared winger on the planet, especially in London. Both Tottenham and Chelsea felt his wrath in the 2019/20 season as Bayern Munich won the Champions League off the back of the former Arsenal winger's sensational form.
While Gnabry remains one of the most potent wingers in the world, he perhaps didn't build off that incredible campaign in the manner many projected.
However, Gnabry has quietly gone about his work in Bavaria and continued to score at an impressive rate. His two-footedness, turn of pace and ferocious ball striking make him destructive on his day.
14. Kingsley Coman
The perpetually injured Kingsley Coman has never been able to catch a break, with knocks often striking at the cruellest of times for the Frenchman.
Coman is not a major producer in the final third and poor decision-making has always prevented him from reaching the heights of some of his teammates, including the more ruthless Serge Gnabry.
Nevertheless, Coman is one of the most prolific dribblers in the world and his ability to create separation in one-vs-one situations is second to none. While he does usually perform an inverted function off the left, Coman's more than capable of occupying the touchline and beating his man on the outside.
11. Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane can score a variety of goals and his killer instinct has made him prolific in the box. He's always in the right place at the right time but there's a genius to his craft. Mane's movement is superb, while the expert timing of his runs always optimises the possibility of successfully getting in behind a defence.
Things didn't work out at Bayern, but his time at Liverpool was legendary.
8. Neymar
Neymar is no longer the kid who broke the internet all those years ago during his time at Santos but he's a footballer who continues to put a smile on the faces of adoring supporters.
His record-breaking move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017 somewhat thrust Neymar out of the limelight from a domestic perspective, with the vast majority of fans judging the Brazilian's legacy from his performances in the Champions League.
Many will point to PSG's absence of a European crown in their Galacticos era, but we shouldn't overlook Neymar's scintillating run to the 2020 final. Had PSG beaten Bayern in Lisbon, Neymar's campaign would've gone down as one of the best individual campaigns in the competition's history.
The Brazilian's struggles with injury mean he's missed plenty of action in recent years.
6. Son Heung-min
Son had his worst campaign in recent memory in 2022/23, coming only a season after he won the Premier League's Golden Boot.
The South Korean idol is known for enduring lapses in form and while such troughs can be incredibly frustrating, Son's scintillating purple patches more than make amends.
He's been a world class performer at Spurs for almost half a decade. While he doesn't excel in some of the traditional aspects of wing play, Son has blossomed into arguably the deadliest inside forward in the world.
There isn't a goal he can't score with either foot and his partnership with Harry Kane has helped the South Korean reach stratospheric heights. Son's carried Spurs in times of strife and his current lean run of form shouldn’t detract from his overall majesty.
5. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has already garnered the 'Kvaradona' tag after joining Napoli last summer.
The Georgian superstar's direct running, instinctive nature and penchant to entertain have seen him immediately emerge as a fan favourite. He's an incredibly exciting winger to watch, with his unpredictability and variation in possession being distinct factors in his meteoric rise.
Kvaratskhelia led Serie A for assists in 2022/23 (10) and also netted 12 times during Napoli's title winning campaign.
1. Kylian Mbappe
The epitome of a generational talent. Kylian Mbappe's rise to superstardom was inevitable after he broke through at Monaco as a 17-year-old during the 2016/17 season.
PSG quickly snapped the teenager up and now Mbappe is regarded by many as the most powerful man in the French capital.
While Mbappe is yet to win the Champions League, he’s won multiple league titles, the World Cup, and is already PSG's second all-time leading goalscorer. The electric Frenchman has achieved so much in such a short space of time, and he’s well on his way to dominating the sport throughout the 2020s.
17. Goncalo Ramos
Benfica love to sell a rising star for big money and it looks like Goncalo Ramos was the next off the conveyor belt this summer, joining PSG on an initial loan deal.
He stepped into Cristiano Ronaldo's shoes at the 2022 World Cup and stepped up for Portugal.
Expect him to continue his rise to stardom at his new club.
8. Randal Kolo Muani
What a whirlwind year it's been for Randal Kolo Muani since leaving Nantes.
He's emerged as one of the Bundesliga's top strikers and has now got his dream move to PSG. Were it not for the giant outstretched leg of Emiliano Martinez, he would have won France the World Cup in the last minute of stoppage time.
Kolo Muani is destined for big things.
3. Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen’s Serie A record has now justified the mammoth fee Napoli paid Lille to secure his services in 2020.
He has exploded into life as part of a joyous Napoli attack and immediately instils fear into opposing defences as a result of his freakish athleticism and relentlessness when running in behind.
The Nigeria international is one of the most valuable outlets in the world, leading Napoli to their first Scudetto since the days of Diego Maradona.
2. Harry Kane
There have been plenty of times where the England skipper has looked like the best number nine/playmaker in the world. There isn't a pass Kane can't execute, nor a goal he can't score.
The ever-elusive piece of silverware shouldn't detract from Kane's majesty but his move to Bayern this summer means silverware won't elud him for much longer.
After Verratti & soon Draxler, one more outgoing set to be completed for PSG: Édouard Michut, just landed in Turkey to sign in as new Adana Demirspor player 🔵🇹🇷 #transfers
Deal agreed on loan with buy option clause, as exclusively revealed yesterday.
Tuchel on whether playing de Ligt as a #6 against Gladbach was a test: "That wasn't a test, we needed Matthijs there because Konny (Laimer) played right-back. We have to react with flexibility to what each game brings. Otherwise he (de Ligt) will fight with Upa and Min-Jae for his favorite position in central defense. We will need everyone and maybe sometimes in unusual positions in the future" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1702295059935195548
Tuchel on the upcoming visit to Oktoberfest: "I'm completely kitted out. The calf warmers are going because there aren't any calves (laughs). Hopefully we'll win three times, otherwise it's going to be a gloomy visit to the oktoberfest. After the international break it's important that everyone follows our principles again. We now have three home games in a row. Tomorrow is the first step." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1702297661527712019
Tuchel: "Victor Boniface is a completely different type of striker to Harry Kane. We have exactly the types of players and personalities that we need. We'll do more to get him even better integrated into our play. Boniface is a perfect fit for Leverkusen. His power is impressive. We found the perfect striker for us. We need to cut out Leverkusen's counter-attacks and stand up to them physically, including Boniface. He's a target man. We have to halt their runs" https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1702299169111593258
Tuchel on Xabi Alonso: "He will continue on a very successful path. You could predict from his playing days that he might be a good coach. I learned a lot about football from watching him as a player. He was a leading figure everywhere. He had a natural aura and excellent anticipation. I'm looking forward to meeting him." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1702299623686041901
Tuchel on whether Leverkusen could be a 'preparation' for Manchester United: "Every opponent has a different style. Now we have to settle back into our own rhythm. Leverkusen have started very well and they play with five at the back. Manchester United play quite differently, they have a different approach under Erik ten Hag with a back four. I'm not preparing for Bochum or United yet, though. My coaching staff have already done a lot of preparation but the full focus for now is on Leverkusen." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1702300484676047169
Xabi Alonso: "We are of course happy to be facing Bayern with nine points - in a nice stadium, against a good team. It's a challenge that we will take on tomorrow. Bayern are the best team in the league, even though it's still early in the season. They are the clear favourites. We're in good spirits and hopefully we can make it a good game. If we play to how we know we can play, we have every chance." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1702313564256755809
Alonso on his time at Bayern: "Playing in Munich for three years was a big honour for me. It was the last three years of my career in which I learned a lot. It was also a bit of preparation for my future, now being a Bundesliga coach. This is how I got to know the country, the language, the league and the rhythm. That was very important for me." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1702314096140668943
Alonso on Kimmich potentially missing tomorrow's game: "I know him very, very well. When he came from Leipzig, we were together from the first day. He was a young player but it was already clear that he had a great future and now he is the boss of Bayern. He has developed a lot, also mentally. We'll see what happens, but normally he'll be on the pitch. They have a few options. Laimer can also play in midfield, like Mazraoui did with Morocco or de Ligt in the last minutes against Gladbach. But we expect him (Kimmich) to play tomorrow." https://twitter.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1702315046406345008
