💬 Matt Doherty has opened up on his difficult start to life at Tottenham Hotspur and how he feels he has started to turn the corner.⠀
—⠀
🗣️ "I love being here. I have really enjoyed my time here but, personally, it's not been a great season for me so far," he said in a very honest interview in the matchday programme for the game against Palace⠀
—⠀
🗣️ "It's been a period of adjustment for me but obviously, when playing, I've made some mistakes which isn't the normal thing for me to do. "I usually pride myself on being a consistent player and not making the errors that I have made this season. I just have to put even more focus and concentration in for 90 minutes and try to be mistake-free, while also expressing myself in the offensive parts of the field."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "Obviously, it’s not the same [playing at right-back compared to right wing-back]. When you play at wing-back, you don't have to defend as much.I haven't been playing that well so far but, hopefully, I can turn that around. My form has not been the best, so it has been a tough start but, obviously, I want to turn it around as soon as possible."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "There are things I need to improve on and things I need to adapt to. It’s been an indifferent start for me personally but, there is a lot more to come. I haven't been playing that well so far but, hopefully, I can turn that around. My form has not been the best, so it has been a tough start but, obviously, I want to turn it around as soon as possible."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "I'm starting to turn the corner, I think. I'm starting to feel good again, to see things a lot quicker and pictures on the pitch a lot clearer. We need to just build a chain of wins and that will breed confidence, and with the players we have here, when everybody has that confidence, it can become an unstoppable team."

💬 Doherty, who has four assists to his name this season, has struck up a friendship with Gareth Bale, which has translated into a good link-up down the right-hand side together.⠀
—⠀
🗣️ "Lately, me and Gareth have been playing together a little bit, whether it has been in cup games, Europe or wherever, and I feel we do link up well, He goes inside, gets in the pockets, obviously, opposition players are scared to go near him because he is so good on the ball, and I'll do the running up the line if I have to."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "Whether he slides me in, puts me out wide or I get the cross in, we seem to link up well and we just seem to have an understanding. I know if I make a run, he has the vision and the weight of pass to slide me in - and it'll be perfect. So, I do really enjoy playing with him."

📰 Evening Standard - Dan KP - Tier 1.5 | Tottenham are yet to discuss Gareth Bale's future with Real Madrid or his representatives, despite the Spanish club being desperate to offload the forward this summer.⠀
—⠀
Bale has now hit form, scoring six times and providing three assists in the last six matches, raising hopes that he could stay at Spurs beyond the end of his season-long loan.⠀
--⠀
❌ The 31-year-old has no future at Real while Zinedine Zidane is in charge and the club want to avoid paying the final year of his contract — around £30million before tax.⠀
--⠀
💰 Spurs contribute less than half of his reported £600,000-a-week wages and the deal is not thought to include the option of a further year, so they would have to renegotiate with Real and Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, to keep him.⠀
--⠀
Barnett has raised the possibility that Bale could stay for longer, but chairman Daniel Levy is yet to hold any discussions.⠀
--⠀
🔄 Real are reportedly eager to offload Bale to fund a deal for Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland in the summer.

💬 Harry Redknapp, who managed Spurs for four years under Levy between 2008 and 2012, has paid tribute to his ex-employer for his efforts in transforming Tottenham into a powerhouse.⠀
—⠀
🗣️ “It’s a massive contribution,” Redknapp told talkSPORT of Levy’s impact in his two decades in north London. “He delivered an incredible new stadium – it’s just amazing. The training ground is as good as anything in the country."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ “They may do it again, but you look where Tottenham have gone in the last ten years and whatever, they play Champions League football and are always looking for top four. Daniel has done an amazing job.”⠀
--⠀
🔄 Redknapp added about how Levy works on transfers: 🗣️ "He came alive on deadline day. He loved a deal. Buy one, get one free. Buy two, get one free – he loved a deal. Even Rafael van der Vaart, that day we were trying to loan him and he said we’re struggling to get a loan deal but we can buy him cheap for £8million." ⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "He said, ‘what do you think?’ and he pulled of an amazing deal that day. He loves it and the transfer part was a big part of his life.”

💬 During a Q&A on Twitch (which can be viewed by swiping up on the club's Instagram stories) alongside teammate Joe Rodon. Bale outlined what it would take for him to do his iconic heart celebration in a Spurs shirt once again.⠀
—⠀
🗣️ "Yeah, of course. I need to score some more goals obviously," he explained. "At the moment the 'Welsh Mafia' is front and centre at the moment."⠀
--⠀
When asked about the meaning behind the Welsh Mafia celebration, Bale said: 🗣️ "A lot of people don't know but it came from ages ago with my wife now. Just done it when I was younger years ago and it started from there and got bigger and bigger."

In a recent interview, former Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek revealed that Tottenham were very close to signing him back in early 2020, when Harry Kane suffered a thigh injury that resulted in a lengthy layoff.
The Polish striker claims he was ‘supposed to replace’ Kane [for a few months], with Spurs submitting an 18-month loan offer.
However, Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin soon came in with the offer of a permanent move, and their determination to secure his signature ultimately convinced Piatek to join them instead of heading to London.
Since moving to Germany, Piatek has contributed to 12 goals in 39 Bundesliga appearances.

--⠀
🗣️ “The first time I met him I was a bit nervous because I was like ‘it’s Gareth Bale you know’. This is someone who I used to watch when I was younger. He’s a big player. I said ‘Hi, I am Japh’. I kind of felt weird for letting him know my name."⠀

💬 Jesus Perez, Pochettino’s assistant at Spurs, described how it was like to work with Daniel Levy, Pochettino's sacking and if they will return to Spurs one day.⠀
—⠀
🗣️ “At some point, as everyone knows, visions were different. The circumstances of the club, they couldn’t please what the team needed or the manager needed to keep progressing. Because of the training centre and then the stadium. To keep that level and keep progressing and build a stadium, probably it was impossible.”⠀
--⠀
🗣️ “Every day Daniel crossed to Mauricio’s office and he joined us on the topic we were discussing,” Perez says. “Then most of the time we had breakfast with him and lunch at the training ground. 2008-09 - Tottenham and Dinamo Zagreb have met only once before in European competition; Spurs beat Dinamo 4-0 at home during the group stages of the UEFA Cup in 2008-09, a game in which Darren Bent scored a hat-trick. Throwback. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1370086552227962882
25 - Brilliant play from @ErikLamela who weaves through Dinamo's defence, takes a shot and hits the post - @HKane is there to slot away the rebound. Get in!
25 - Harry Kane has now scored 25 goals for Spurs in all competitions this season, already surpassing his goal tally from each of his previous two seasons (24 in 2019-20 and 2018-19). Dynamite. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1370110151378747398
Harry Kane scores! Great work from Erik Lamela to turn and jink past a couple of challenges before hitting an effort inside the box which hits the post and rebounds to Kane to slot home. https://twitter.com/AlasdairGold/status/1370108794764730375
It's not been scintilating stuff but so far Spurs have done the job required with that Harry Kane goal and nothing conceded.
Dinamo certainly have something about them and are dangerous on the break and Tottenham's midfield and defence will have to remain wary.
At the other end, Spurs are just missing that bit of quality on their final ball into the box.
The one moment of magic - Erik Lamela's jinking run and shot - led to the only goal so far as Kane slammed home the loose ball after it struck the post.
Lamela has been bright and Sissoko has done more with the ball than many of his team-mates with some crisp passing to both flanks.
Dele Alli has looked rusty at times with his touch and decision-making and the hosts need him to link up the play more as he did in the build-up to the goal.
Serge Aurier is back on the right and he's getting up and down his flank but he just needs a bit more quality to his crosses into the danger area.
With Mourinho able to use five substitutes tonight he could make a half-time change or two to up the quality and urgency.
If not it likely won't be long until the reinforcements arrive.
#thfc FT, 2-0. Very good night's work for Spurs, who have taken the sting out of next week's second leg, when they should be able to rest stars, and kept the bulk of their key players fresh for Sunday. Kane their standout player again. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1370130794396721153
3 - Spurs have progressed from each of their previous three knockout ties in the UEFA Europa League when they’ve won the first leg - versus Lyon and Internazionale in 2012-13, and RZ Pellets WAC earlier this season. Comfortable. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1370133821157486600
Carlos Vinicius had been the first-choice striker in Europa League action for Tottenham this season, but Kane stepped in tonight and showed why he is capable of spearheading them all the way to the trophy.
The 27-year-old's link-up play in the first half was too much for Zagreb centre-back pair Rasmus Lauritsen and Theophile-Catherine to handle, and his poacher's finish to grab his 26th goal of the season showed you simply cannot switch off against the in-form striker.
PLAYER RATINGS
Tottenham XI: Lloris (7), Aurier (7), Sanchez (6), Dier (6), Davies (6), Sissoko (6), Ndombele (6), Alli (6), Lamela (6), Son (6), Kane (8).
Bale (6), Lucas (6), Bergwijn (6), Hojbjerg (6), Vinicius (N/A)
Kane enjoyed another profitable night, as he has so often done so in the Europa League this season. Up to eight goals already the competition, the 27-year-old is quite simply a Champions League player feeding at a lower level.
Kane has now scored 26 goals for Spurs this season, already surpassing his goal tally from each of his previous two seasons (24 in both 2019-20 and 2018-19).
Zagreb were unable to cope with his movement, well placed for both of his goals here, anticipating where the ball would drop. Sensing another hat-trick, his importance to this Spurs team was underlined by how swiftly Mourinho beckoned Vinicius to take his place at the first sign of a knock.
Tottenham Hotspur (4-2-3-1): H Lloris 6 — S Aurier 7, D Sánchez 6, E Dier 6, B Davies 6 — M Sissoko 6, T Ndombele 7 (P-E Hojbjerg 72min) — É Lamela 8 (G Bale 64, 6), D Alli 6 (L Moura 64, 6), Son Heung-min 7 (S Bergwijn 64, 6) — H Kane 8 (C Vinicius 84).
Another very bright display from the South Korean, showing more playmaking flair. He connected on one dazzling deep cross to his favourite target, Kane, who played a marvellous volleyed pass to Dele. The pass was unfortunately intercepted. Son got to the byline willy nilly to deliver numerous threatening balls. He was also on the receiving end of Kane’s remarkably precise distribution.
Heung-min Son – 8 – Looked really dangerous off that left-wing all night. He put in some incredible crosses and deserved an assist or two. Hopefully, the goals will come again.

Harry Kane was in the right place at the right time on two occasions as his goals ensure Tottenham head into the second leg with a vital two-goal advantage over Dinamo Zagreb.⠀

🗣️ "The result could be a little bit bigger. I would say that a third goal would have fit very well in the reality of the game. It's still open and we have to go there and play a serious match because 2-0 we're not yet in the quarter-finals."

He is [a master of football]. Many strikers score goals, which he does, but he also understands everything we ask of him. He understands the game very well. He can see the spaces where other players are."

👀 Mourinho on the penalty claim: 🗣️ "I like it when a referee doesn't give lots of yellow cards. But with the penalty it was a penalty but he didn't think so. Yeah he (Ndombele) was fouled but he didn't get a penalty or many yellow cards [for the others]. He dribbles, he's very strong on one-on-ones, and it's for the referees to analyse it."

What are your thoughts on the game? 🤔
The Korean wizard weaved his playmaking magic once again and linked up well with his partner-in-crime, Kane. It's unfortunate that he couldn't cap his performance tonight with a goal.
Son Heung-min enjoyed yet another bright game in the final third. His link-up with Harry Kane was integral to Tottenham’s attacking game, with the duo often causing a threat for the Dinamo defenders. The South Korean international, though, may have preferred to be involved in the game a bit more and perhaps even score a goal considering how Tottenham dominated the game.

💬 Jose Mourinho says the battle between Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier for the right-back spot in Sunday's north London derby is "amazing".⠀
—⠀
🗣️ "That's amazing. They're both playing well and that's what I want and need, and that's what the team needs. Ben Davies and [Sergio] Reguilon [too]. I'm just talking about the full-backs but the reason why [against Dinamo] we changed seven players from the last match was because I trust all the guys."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "The last time I did this, we lost against Antwerp and everybody was killing me, and rightly so, because I made these decisions but in that match I felt a little let down by attitude and it was a moment where not everybody was working well and hard and trying to play."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "I change seven in a very important match [now] and I did it because of trust. To be honest I didn't change 11 because I didn't want to give the team a feeling of it's too much or I'm gambling or something like that because I could have perfectly changed."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "I have everybody. The question was about Serge and Matt but I went in other directions with my answer, but the reality is we have that, we have everybody playing well."

Sheffield United have named their price for Tottenham target Sander Berge - £22m.
If the Blades suffer relegation this season, the Norwegian midfielder may be one of the first to go. Despite being Sheffield’s second-highest earner, his weekly wage of £32,600 would make him very affordable for Spurs.

We’re saying Harry Kane keeps his incredible form up and pulls clear in the remaining games to grab the Premier League Golden Boot.
In the Championship, Ivan Toney sets the goal record despite a strong effort from Teemu Pukki, and grabs the Golden Boot in the process.
In League One, Charlie Wyke claims the Golden Boot, mainly because he’s too good in the air and Aiden McGeady is going to keep putting it on a platter until the end of the season.
In League Two, nobody is catching Paul Mullin, especially with James Vaughan out with a knee injury.

"I'd hardly sat down when that giant with the 11 on his shirt scored. He (Didier Drogba) celebrated that goal like it was his last, the crowd went mad, the noise was deafening."

"Six months later I signed for Chelsea...I had a number of options, but I arrived and said, 'I want Didier Drogba.' Doubts. Questions were raised by a few people: 'Why this one?', 'Why not that one?', 'Are you sure he will adapt?', 'Is he really that good?'... 'I want Didier Drogba,' I said."

🎙Micah Richards on criticism of Gareth Bale:
“I’ve listened all season to critics of Bale, who have questioned his desire and effectiveness, and felt saddened.
Sometimes I’m not sure he gets the respect he deserves. Four Champions League winners’ medals? What more can he do!
Maybe people expected [immediately] on his return to Tottenham they were going to see the Bale of old - that was never realistic.
He’s matured his game over the last 8 years. To hear people question Bale’s hunger was really irritating. Perhaps it stems from the “Wales. Golf. Madrid” banner.
The assumption that he isn’t as motivated as he once was is absolute rubbish.”

Tottenham travel to the Emirates Stadium to face bitter rivals Arsenal as they look to continue their recent domination of North London.⠀
--⠀
Tottenham won the reverse fixture 2-0 following a wonder goal from Heung Min Son and a powerful effort from Harry Kane, and Spurs are looking to win three consecutive league games against Arsenal for the first time since October 1974.⠀
--⠀
A victory would also give Tottenham their first league double over Arsenal since the 1992/93 season, with Jose Mourinho already completing a double of his own, winning both league games against the Gunners since his arrival at the club.⠀
--⠀
Arsenal are winless in their last five meetings with Tottenham in all competitions, and there is added incentive for Spurs as Arsenal have never gone six games without a win against their close rivals.⠀
--⠀
However, the last time Tottenham won in the league at the Emirates was back in November 2010, when a Younes Kaboul goal completed a second half comeback as Spurs came from 2-0 down to win 3-2.⠀

This last success 11 years ago saw Gareth Bale find the back of the net, and he will be eager to emulate that during his second stint in a Tottenham shirt.⠀

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dropped to bench for Arsenal’s visit of Tottenham after captain reported late when squad met up earlier today. Believed not to be the first time & falls out of line with club’s matchday protocols https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1371135251100147712
#thfc Had a quick check & I think of Spurs' outfield players only Hojbjerg has played more minutes than Son this season. He normally avoids muscle injuries but this shouldn't come as a big a surprise https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1371143853093351430
Can't help wondering whether all that desperate chasing of shadows by #Son as #thfc tried to park the bus again here has contributed to this (certainly looks like a hamstring injury). #Bale has also been putting his fragile body on the line defensively a lot... #ARSTOT https://twitter.com/pbsportswriter/status/1371141624907071494
11 - Coming into this match Erik Lamela had played more games against Arsenal without scoring for Spurs than any other side, with today his 11th match against the Gunners. Filth. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1371145963751018503
33 - Erik Lamela is the fourth substitute to score in the first half of a Premier League game for Spurs after Ronnie Rosenthal (1997), Steffen Iversen (1998) and Gary Doherty (2003). Serendipity. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1371147770342600708
My general impression of Lamela is that in the last few years he's become more about all-round game than about final third quality. (I actually can't remember the last time before this he did something v good). And then he does this! Like he'd been secretly building up to it! https://twitter.com/JackPittBrooke/status/1371147321208102918
One of the best goals you’ll see this season, build-up & finish. Bale long switch to Reguilon, ball inside to Lucas Moura, lay off to Lamela who responds with a sensational Rabona spiced with a tweak of nutmeg on Partey on its way into the #afc net. #thfc bench erupts in joy. https://twitter.com/henrywinter/status/1371146230781329418
That #Lamela goal is one for the ages. Will be played over and over and over. A rabona through the legs of Thomas Partey and in to the bottom corner. In a North London Derby. At the Emirates. Whole #thfc bench up going PHWOAR #ARTOT https://twitter.com/pbsportswriter/status/1371145313604546560
Here are Alasdair's thoughts on that first half from Spurs
It's been a cautious performance from Spurs lacking in quality apart from that one magic moment from Erik Lamela.
Arsenal have hit the woodwork twice and dominated much of the half apart from a brief spell that ended with Tottenham opening the scoring.
Losing Son after 20 minutes with a hamstring injury was a blow but the one positive was that it brought a rabona goal in a north London derby.
The goal was so Erik Lamela. Always wanting to favour that left foot he did it to mesmerising effect and sent the ball arrowing into the bottom right corner.
At the other end Arsenal have been overloading down Matt Doherty's flank. He's not had the usual help a right-back would if Moussa Sissoko was playing and it's left him exposed and split between two players.
However, that leveller just before half-time was all about him being beaten far, far too easily in a one-on-one duel with Tierney. It was poor from the Irishman.
The goal had a touch of fortune with Odegaard's shot wrong-footing Lloris due to a deflection off Alderweireld's legs but it was the least that the home side deserved for that first half.
Spurs need to raise their game a lot in the second half. They need to be a threat with the attacking quality they have.
Lamela's rabona aside, I think Spurs are struggling a bit to play on the break now that their best counter-attacker has gone off. Can't get Kane and Bale in the game. Need something a bit different in the second half but I'm not sure exactly what. Dele? https://twitter.com/JackPittBrooke/status/1371151781959499777
#thfc From my perspective this is the first real test since the West Ham defeat. Every result since then is one I’d largely expect from any of the top-half sides. And so far, Spurs are lucky to be level today. Lamela’s unreal Goal of the Season contender is the only good moment. https://twitter.com/BenPearceSpurs/status/1371148556845916168
HT 1-1 Deserved equaliser for Arsenal, albeit from their first shot on target (having hit the woodwork twice). Moment of magic from Lamela but #thfc have been non-existent as an attacking force otherwise. Smith Rowe & Tierney down the left are consistently #afc's biggest threat. https://twitter.com/JamesOlley/status/1371148815911256068
7 - Spurs have conceded seven penalty goals in the Premier League this season, the most by a José Mourinho side in a single campaign in the competition. Self-sabotage. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1371159155306807302
2012 - Erik Lamela is the first player to score and be sent off in a Premier League game for Tottenham since Emmanuel Adebayor in November 2012, also against Arsenal. Stage. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1371162068066385931
5 - The five substitutes to score and be sent off in a Premier League match:
David Lee (Chelsea v Sheff Wed, 1993)
Bobby Zamora (West Ham v Fulham, 2007)
Ivan Klasnic (Bolton s Stoke, 2010)
Hal Robson-Kanu (WBA v Burnley, 2017)
Erik Lamela (Spurs v Arsenal, 2021)
📊 Arsenal extend their unbeaten home PL run v Tottenham to 10 games
📊 The Gunners have won 6 of the last 21 PL North London derbies when conceding the 1st goal
📊 Jose Mourinho is beaten for only the 2nd time in 19 PL games v Arsenal
José Mourinho: "I think we played really bad in the first half. We were poor. Defending bad, no intensity, no pressing. In terms of attacking football, some important attacking players were hiding."
45 - Spurs have dropped 45 points from winning positions against Arsenal in the Premier League, the most of any team against a specific opponent in the competition. Spursy. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1371165681723580417
9 - Spurs have now lost nine games in the Premier League this season; the joint-most José Mourinho has ever suffered in a single league campaign in his managerial career (also nine in 2015-16 with Chelsea). Diminishing. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1371166192728166402
#thfc There was some spirit shown in the last 15 minutes with 10 men - Arsenal’s game management went to bits - but otherwise that was painfully passive, lacking the basic combativeness you’d expect in a derby. After a decent period (against lesser sides), another step backwards. https://twitter.com/BenPearceSpurs/status/1371165180713959434
#thfc FT, 2-1. A defeat which ends Tottenham's Spring renaissance, opens up old wounds and leaves Mourinho facing familiar questions. This was Spurs' first real test since West Ham and they failed it miserably. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1371165756541579267
On Thursday Mourinho was asked about his plan for this game. "I look up, I don't look down. If Arsenal was 7 pts ahead of us, I'd look to them. But because we have seven points more than them, I don't look down."
And yet Spurs set up today like they were David facing Goliath.
It’s starting to look like we are flat track bullies. Whether that’s because the manager is scared to go toe to toe with better teams or the rest of the team isn’t good enough. I suspect it’s largely the former https://twitter.com/coys100/status/1371167807883337728
#afc deserved winners #NLD. Lamela Rabona fabulous but Arsenal better for 80 mins. David Luiz superb, limiting Kane, passing well, even venturing upfield; MOTM imho. Gabriel outstanding too. ESR another huge shift, creating and tracking back. Tierney, Odegaard, Cedric all good. https://twitter.com/henrywinter/status/1371167446359543809
FT 2-1 #afc A frantic finale but a deserved win for Arsenal. A victory for Arteta as much as anything, dropping the club captain but generating an impressive display regardless. Spurs came to life far too late, Lamela's first-half brilliance aside. https://twitter.com/JamesOlley/status/1371165159188787201
Barely had a sniff before pulling up with a suspected hamstring injury. Any absence would be a major blow for Spurs given the schedule and his importance to Mourinho’s side.
5 -- Mourinho put his attacking foot forward with the lineup, but we're not so sure he did the same with the tactics. Spurs sat back and invited the pressure, and even though there were smart substitutions littered into Mourinho's gameplan, it always felt as if they were a step behind and never really threatened Arsenal outside of their goal.
Player Ratings 4-2-3-1
Hugo 5 : Doherty 4, Davinson Sanchez 3, Toby 6, Reguilon 5 : Højbjerg 5, Ndombele 4 : Bale 5, Lucas Moura 5, Sonny N/R : Kane 6
MAN OF THE MATCH – Kieran Tierney (Arsenal)
The Scottish left-back was superb throughout, working brilliantly with Smith Rowe to completely dominate the left side for Arsenal. Matt Doherty had no answer to the joint threat.
Not content with being a major attacking outlet for Arsenal, Tierney also kept Gareth Bale quiet before the Welshman was withdrawn in the second half. And it was the left-back who pressurised Lamela into the fend-off that earned the Argentine his second yellow.

North London is red! Goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Martin Odegaard seal comeback win for Arsenal over rivals Tottenham after sublime opener by Erik Lamela... who was later sent off https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9355409/
Tottenham was ill-prepared from the kickoff and that is on José Mourinho. Sure no player exactly bathed themselves in glory but that was because they were not ready. Whether it was a lack of sleep, not liking the gameplan, or something else, the team never showed up for one of the biggest fixtures on the calendar. Having three defenders on the bench, plus Sissoko and WInks, but not a back-up Winger was a mistake. Not having Bergwijn to come on and stretch the pitch after Son went out cost Spurs dearly, despite Lamela’s goal. Without someone to run Tottenham stopped going long and looked hapless like they did back during their slump. Mourinho has to find a solution for teams that play a 4-2-3-1 against him because right now Tottenham is lost versus that formation.

Maybe it is unfair to give Son a rating considering he came off injured without contact less than 20 minutes into the match. However, in 19 minutes Sonny had all of four touches. One could blame that on the ability to get the ball to the South Korean but the lack of any real press from Son or his mates was clear from the off. Hopefully, Son is not seriously injured but his lack of intensity was apparent in his 20 minutes.
Manager - Jose Mourinho
The injury to Son was unfortunate, as was the red card to Lamela, but he should have removed Doherty, who really struggled. There is tension in this side, and you can feel it. It was another performance against a big team where they just were out-matched and out-coached.

MOTM = Sanchez + Moura (5.5) 👑

Just a quick word on Davinson. He was our best player today despite giving away that penalty and that shows a lot. He covered for Doherty so much in that first half and kept us in the game so he deserves MOTM 😤

Mourinho on Son's injury: "That's football. I don't know how long it is. It's muscular. Muscular is usually not easy. He's normally a guy who recovers quickly. It's an accumulation of matches. Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty midway through the second half was enough to settle the North London Derby as Tottenham completely capitulated as the game progressed.⠀

Davinson Sanchez clumsily brought down Lacazette who converted from the spot to score the winning goal for the home side despite Tottenham taking the lead in emphatic style during the first half.⠀
—⠀
Tottenham’s opener was potentially the goal of the season as Erik Lamela found the far corner after nutmegging Thomas Partey with a ‘rabona’ from 12 yards as Spurs took full advantage of their first real spell of possession during the game, following a slow start from Spurs.⠀
--⠀
The lead was relatively short lived though as Arsenal equalised on the stroke of half time after Kieran Tierney beat Matt Doherty with ease and picked out Martin Odegaard, who saw his shot deflect into the Tottenham net past Hugo Lloris.⠀
--⠀
Despite being fortunate to be ahead, Tottenham were at fault for their own downfall and Lamela went from hero to villain as two quick fire yellow cards saw him get sent off with 15 minutes still to play.⠀

💬 Jose Mourinho discusses Spurs’ Loss against Arsenal:
--
🗣️ "No post-match interviews for referees? No, that's a pity. I think we played really bad in the first half. 1-1 was not a fair reflection of the first half. No intensity, not pressing, not attacking football. First half really bad. Everybody was dropping back and nobody was looking to attack. Apart from Lucas with some individual actions.
--
🗣️ "In the second half we only had space to improve which we did. Then it's a question, but an impossible question because they don't speak, to Michael Oliver and Paul Tierney." I do not want to call it a penalty because it was an offence to penalties." he said on the penalty.
--
🇰🇷 Mourinho on Son's Injury: 🗣️ "That's football. I don't know how long it is. It's muscular. Muscular is usually not easy. He's normally a guy who recovers quickly. It's an accumulation of matches. I gave him 30 minutes rest in the last match, but it's still 60 minutes."
--
🔃 On his substitutions: 🗣️ "Gareth and Tanguy we need more intensity in that game. We need to press more, be more intense in the game. We needed initially Sissoko to give us that intensity in the midfield that Tanguy was not giving us. Then Dele was a player who had a desire to play and in the last match he did not complete the 90 minutes. He was fresh and had a good understanding with Harry."

But we already knew that of course.
⠀
A very dominant display by Arsenal. Thoroughly diserved this win, and it could (and maybe should) have been by more. Ødegaard and Smith Rowe were brilliant today. Not only them, but everyone played out of their skin. That's what we wanted to see.
⠀
Goals by Ødegaard and Lacazette (P) won us the game. We conceded to that piece of skill by Lamela, but he got himself sent of later on in the game, which was only fitting 😉. Can't forget to mention that header off the line by Gabriel! What a man!

Arsenal come from behind to beat Spurs 2-1. Lamela gave Spurs the lead with their first shot when he scored a brilliant Rabona, with Arsenal hitting the woodwork through Smith Rowe and Cedric on either side of it. Odegaard equalised just before half-time for the hosts. Lacazette won a penalty in the second half which he then converted to put his side ahead. Lamela was then sent off 10 minutes later for his second booking before Kane hit the post with a free-kick late on. https://www.instagram.com/p/CMaTcz0gsAU/

Spurs led 1-0 in the North London derby today, but eventually lost 2-1 to Arsenal.
This means that they have now dropped 45 points from winning positions against Arsenal in Premier League history – a competition record by one team against another.

Arsenal claimed the bragging rights in north London after a comeback 2-1 win over Tottenham. Alexandre Lacazette's controversial winner from the penalty spot came after a sublime goal from Érik Lamela, who scored a goal-of-the-season contender – a left-footed rabona – to open the scoring for Spurs. Lamela was later sent off for Tottenham, who hit the post in the 90th minute through Harry Kane but were unable to find an equaliser.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who dropped captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang due to a disciplinary issue before the derby, said this after his side's win: "The last 10 minutes, though, is the worst we've played. We could not manage the game, we could not manage the tension. It was too reliant on luck.
José Mourinho gave his view on Arsenal's winning penalty: "No post-match interviews for the referees? Pity! … I don't want to call it a penalty because it's an offence to the penalties."

💬 Tanguy Ndombele says he has become "mature" in his game at Tottenham.⠀
—⠀
🗣️ "I feel good. And with all that is going on in life today, I can only be smiling. I am a lucky person. In football, things are going well, so things are going well at the moment in my life. When you arrive in a club, you ask yourself a lot of questions. I think it played out in my last season as well."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "Then there was the crisis which made me relativize. And on the pitch, things are better, especially if I compare to last season. I don't approach games the same way. I have more confidence and the club has helped me to have more confidence in myself."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "I also worked physically during the break from the championships last season, so I'm less injured. I am more mature too. Afterwards, I have less madness in my game, but that's how it is. I have less recklessness in my game. There are times when I can project myself and move forward and I do it less."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "Before, I wouldn't have asked myself any questions. That's what I feel. There are things I didn't do before that I enjoy now. More defending, running, tackling ... Before, it was more dribbling, making assists. I have freedom, the coach knows that. I'm not a player who can be told to stay put. I need a little freedom but I try not to abuse it and do what's right for the team."⠀
--⠀
🗣️ "It's just being more mature, for me. I'm still a player who does good things with the ball, but we will say that I think more of the team. I took more pleasure for myself before I gave it to the team. I am less selfish now."

I could wax my usual lyrical about many of the main guys yesterday but one guy who I didn’t see enough praise for was Granit Xhaka. Come like Marmite the way this man divides opinion. Teflon Don in an Arsenal shirt. Just when you think his time is done here, he turns it around. The Swiss Conductor quietly dropped a masterclass vs. Spurs. Check the numbers real quick. Touches: 81 (Most). Successful passes: 66 (Most). Pass accuracy: 94.3%. Ball recoveries: 9 (Most). Interceptions: 3 (Most). Tackles: 3. Passing was ace, positioning on point & broke up the play when needed. That tackle on Doherty in Minute 78’ was oso therapeutic. That's now 15 back-to-back games in all competitions that Granit Xhaka has started in, completing 90 minutes in each of them. Fitness levels: Nuts. 🗣️ "It was a surpise for almost everyone but not us because we know him so well. He does this in the training session almost every week. He is an amazing player. It was the only thing he could do in this action and it was not easy."

🗣️ "He has scored a goal like this in the past but in a derby is even more special. Unfortunately we didn't win the game because if we had to score that goal as the winner would have been even more special. Lamela is an amazing player."

🗣️ "I feel very comfortable in that position. I can go from the right to the left. I can go from a number nine. It's a position I like to play and the gaffer is giving me the confidence."

🗣️ "I feel it's open, I don't feel it's game over, if we go away and we lose 2-0 and we play the second leg at home, I don't feel it's over. I would feel it's very difficult but open so the way to approach the game is to think that way and to think that we still have a match to play and to get a positive result."⠀

🗣️ "At the end of the 90 minutes, if we lose 1-0 or we lose 2-1 or even 3-1, we would qualify but if we qualify with a defeat in this game, I will not be happy. That's the way I want the players to think and that's the way we want to play. We don't go there to defend a lead, we go there to win a game."⠀

🗣️ "Michael is a very good referee. Despite me being normally very unlucky with him, I have no problem with him being my referee for the next game. He's a good referee and just unlucky in his decisions with me. Clearly one of the best referees in the league and Europe."⠀

🗣️ "He's one of the players you're never worried about the way he approaches matches. With Lucas, there are not question marks about the things that I consider the basics of football. When I say basics, probably not the right word. The fundamental. The fundamental and the basic. For me he's one of the players I totally respect because he's a proper professional."
