Back in the team and back on the scoresheet, running on to Kane's quick free-kick before deftly flicking the ball over the diving De Gea. He then set up Kane for the third goal and nutmegged the keeper for his own second. Set up Son for another big chance before coming off with 15 minutes to go. What a return and he's hitting all new heights now. 10
Another outstanding performance from a player who has started the season in blistering form. Finished his two goals brilliantly, taking his tally for the season to seven in all competitions, and also provided the assist for Kane's first.
Matt Doherty may struggle to win his place back after this impressive showing from the 27-year-old. Every Spurs player was a contender, but Aurier's dynamic performance deserves most credit.
9 -- Jose Mourinho will be leaving Old Trafford extremely pleased with how things have worked out. His big decision was to play Serge Aurier over Matt Doherty, which was vindicated, even before the Ivorian got on the scoresheet. Man United were extremely poor, but Mourinho's side took full advantage of that. He was also smart to take Erik Lamela off at half-time, after his feisty performance.
FW Heung-min Son, 9 -- Many didn't expect him to play, but Mourinho will be over the moon that he did. The South Korean got two well-taken goals and also assisted Kane.
Heung-min Son 9 Son was simply sensational. The Korean scorched United almost every time he ran forward. Slayed the Red Devils with a supreme go-ahead goal, ripping through them like Prime Kaka. Set Kane up wonderfully to make it 1-3 and then made it 1-4 with an ice cold finish through David de Gea’s legs. Jos Mourinho did Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a great mercy by withdrawing the Korean before the end of the game, because had he stayed on the score could have reached double figure.
No Manchester United player above a FIVE, a 2/10 for a pedestrian Paul Pogba... yet a near-perfect display from star strikers Harry Kane and Son Heung-min: Player ratings after Tottenham's stunning performance at Old Trafford https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8804137/
☆
Another exquisite display of finishing from the south Korean. Brilliant deft finish for his first of the afternoon and clever dart to the near post for his second. Played effortlessly in tandem with Kane.
Heung min-Son (LW) - 9/10 - Devastating performance. Having him fighting fit again is a huge boost for Spurs. Only downside was that he couldn't complete his hat trick.
A surprising inclusion in the starting lineup, Son Heung-Min ran rings around the Manchester United. He scored two excellent goals before setting up one for Kane. His sizzling footwork, combined with some remarkable combination play with his teammates made life infinitely more difficult for the Red Devils. Unplayable.
Heung Min Son, 10 What a start to the campaign for the South Korean. Put Tottenham ahead with a wonderful run and finish before setting up Kane with an intelligent cut-back soon after. Grabbed his second of the afternoon with a close-range finish before the break.
Heung-min Son 9 Would have been a ten if he had scored the extra one-on-one against De Gea in the first-half, such are the standards we not set for Sonny. Two goals and an assist for an incredible player!
Son Heung-min: Four goals for Son Heung-min at Southampton and another two against Manchester United in a match that was too extraordinary to believe.
Admittedly Spurs and Son in particular took total advantage of 10-man United at Old Trafford after Anthony Martial received his marching orders. The South Korea international is in glorious form at the moment and his link-up play with Harry Kane is almost telepathic.
As for the sending-off that handed Tottenham the game? Well I have more to say about that in the Crooks of the Matter below.
Did you know? Son Heung-min has been involved in seven goals in two away Premier League matches this season (six goals, one assist).
Son Heung-min (LM) - Aaron Wan-Bissaka will see Son Heung-min everywhere he turns for the next month, such is the extent of the emotional trauma the South Korean caused him in Spurs' jaw-dropping victory. Son made the inside left channel his own, terrorising Wan-Bissaka and Eric Bailly, who - spoiler - is not the answer to United's defensive problems.
A difficult decision to omit Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin following his flamboyant performance this weekend, but Son Heung-Min’s scintillating start to the season earns him yet another inclusion in our Team of the Week.
The South Korea international moved level with Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the Premier League’s leading scorer after netting a clinical brace at Manchester United, finishing superbly in addition to turning provider for Harry Kane as the visitor’s exposed the Red Devils’ woeful backline.
Son’s partnership with Kane continues to go from strength to strength with the duo dovetailing effortlessly in the opening weeks of the season, the impending introduction of Gareth Bale to the side only set to increase Spurs’ attacking prowess.
Before we start – Harry Kane is very unlucky to miss out here but we wanted a front-three from various clubs. The South Korean star followed up his four goals in Tottenham’s first away game at Southampton with a further two in the 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford. Spurs’ goal-machine raced clear to put the visitors 2-1 up after just seven minutes before setting up Harry Kane to make it 3-1. Then, eight minutes before the break, Son netted his second and Jose Mourinho side’s fourth on a memorable afternoon for the North London side.
The South Korean had a hand in half of the goals as Spurs hit United for six, scoring the vital second. The fact that he scored two and assisted the other of the second, third and fourth goals shows just how key he was to the rout, which arguably wouldn’t have happened without him.

2. Son Heung-min (up five)
Normal service resumed for Son Heung-min and Tottenham.
The South Korean hobbled off at half time in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle last week and there had been fears that the attacker would be unavailable for the trip to Old Trafford this weekend with a hamstring strain.
But Son showed no signs of fitness concerns in yet another scintillating performance from the 28-year-old, with his two goals and assist obliterating United in a display that sent shockwaves through football.
When he plays like this, there is absolutely no stopping the South Korean.
His first goal of the game exemplified his combination of electrifying pace and deftness of touch with a cute finish past David de Gea, while he occupied positions which left £80m man Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly bamboozled throughout a torrid afternoon.
He's back up five places, but is pipped by another man in unstoppable form...
"I don't mind what you did; I mind how you did it." (All the President's Men)
That's how all fantasy league players felt when they saw Son had made Tottenham's team to face Manchester United.
José Mourinho had given no indication he'd be back, so players missed out on some sweet, sweet points as he bagged two goals and an assist in the 6-1 win.

Heung-min Son's performances for Spurs provides all the evidence you need to Mikel Arteta in terms of playing with proper wide players. Talk about a breathless opening 16 minutes. A brace from Harry Kane and a goal from Son Heung-min means Jose Mourinho's side are comfortable at the break.

28 – Son Heung-min and Harry Kane have combined for 28 Premier League goals, the fourth-most of any duo in Premier League history and the most of any current duo. Rising. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1317875390514368515

#thfc That was a bit lackadaisical for a long time in the middle of the match - it didn't really feel like Spurs wanted to get a fourth or fifth at 3-0, even if Kane went close a couple of times. But three should obviously have been plenty! That Bale chance looks a big moment now https://twitter.com/BenPearceSpurs/status/1317880716210937860
#thfc FT, 3-3. Incredible. Bale's second coming precipitated a famous West Ham comeback / Spurs collapse as Hammers recovered from 3-0 down. Spurs squander another 3 points at home right at the death. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1317879436600115206
This is truly the maddest @premierleague season. #WHUFC equalise at the death. 3-0 down, draw 3-3. Lanzini's venomous 25-yarder. Moyes celebrating on the pitch. Subs everywhere. #THFC players slumped. All over. Bonkers match. #TOTWHU https://twitter.com/henrywinter/status/1317878924936957954
Another confident finish within a minute, running on, cutting inside and curling home. Then provided an assist for Kane in return soon after. Denied by Fabianksi after the half-hour mark with a sliding effort. 8
Son – 9: Took his goal with supreme confidence; as soon as he cut inside, there was no doubt he would find the net. Elsewhere caused Balbuena plenty of problems.
Another marvellous attacking display from Son Heung-Min, who was a menace for the West Ham defence throughout the game. The South Korean international was the architect behind most of Tottenham’s chances, combining incredibly well with Kane to put his team in a commanding position.
Will this be the year that Son is finally recognised alongside Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling as one of the Premier League’s very best wide forwards?
Since a disappointing debut season which almost culminated in a swift return to German football, Son has scored 21, 18, 20 and 18 goals over the past four campaigns. Less than two months into 2020-21 and he has already netted eight times in his opening seven games. Despite such consistency, he remains strangely undervalued.
Perceptions might finally be starting to shift following a series of explosive performances. When Son put Spurs 1-0 up with 45 seconds on the clock it was his seventh goal from his last seven shots on target in the Premier League and eight in total.
Maintaining an overall shot conversion rate of 70 per cent is near impossible but if Son can eclipse his previous personal best for goals, plaudits and accolades will surely follow.
Mourinho’s decision to withdraw him late on before Spurs’ epic collapse proved to be a poor one.

Heung-min Son – 8 – Another world-class performance from the Korean winger who is looking unstoppable at the moment. He scored after 45 seconds, had an assist before the 10th minute, completed 3 key passes and 2 dribbles before he was taken off. He just oozes class at the moment and every time he touches the ball the tempo of the team switches up a gear. When his teammates find him in the attacking transitions, he creates a dangerous attack almost every time.

Harry Kane, a two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, has always been more than a goalscorer for Spurs, but after just five games this season, he has already broken his personal record for most assists in a single season. With seven assists to his name already, Kane has taken playmaking ability to a new height, and the biggest beneficiary for his evolution is Son Heung-min, who continues to make impeccably timed runs in behind to finish the chances that the Englishman has created for him. Of Kane's seven assists this season, six have been passes that led to goals scored by Son. https://www.instagram.com/p/CGgjG37Ac_9/

📈 Harry Kane X Heung-min Son. 🏴🇰🇷
—
Since Jose Mourinho took charge of Spurs in November 2019, Harry Kane (33) and Son Heung-Min (30) have had a direct hand in more goals in all competitions than any other Premier League players.
--
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have combined for eight Premier League goals this season; only Teddy Sheringham and Darren Anderton (1992-93 & 1994-95) and Sheringham and Chris Armstrong (1995-96) have ever combined for more in a single PL season for Spurs (all 9).

The joint-leading scorer in the Premier League and a man playing full of confidence at the moment, the South Korean was once again on the scoresheet after opening the scoring in Tottenham’s thrilling 3-3 draw with West Ham.
It took less than a minute for Son to find the net against the Hammers, netting his seventh of the season following yet another assist by Harry Kane, the duo having dovetailed superbly in the opening weeks of the campaign.
Spurs have proven they have the firepower to trouble any side in the division, but their capitulation against The Hammers – blowing a three-goal lead with just eight minutes remaining – will be a major concern for Jose Mourinho.

2. Son Heung-min (no change)
Son has scored in all but two of Tottenham's league games so far this season, and has converted from a conventional winger to and out-and-out centre forward.
The South Korean now looks both confident and assured in any forward area, and appears destined to score in every one-on-one with the last man.
After beginning the season in blistering form and blundering four goals against Southampton, Son has continued to graciously receive from his team-mate Kane.
The pair are linking up better than ever before, and looked well on course to go about business as usual at the weekend and take down West Ham in ruthless fashion.
Son's goal in just the first minute showed just how sharp he is right now, a player very much in form who is waiting for those around him to get up to his level.
Spurs have much work to do, given the dramatic way they ultimately folded in north London, though Son's form has been an ever-presence for some weeks now.

💬 Son Heung-min believes Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has been misunderstood over the course of his career, and admitted he was 'amazed' when he got the chance to work with one of the game's ultimate winners for the first time last year.
—
Speaking to Goal at an Amazon Prime event to promote the All Or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur documentary, South Korea international Son insisted Mourinho's reputation for falling out with players has not been in evidence in his first year as Spurs boss.
--
🗣️ "Some people misunderstand the manager," states Son. "Maybe they have a different opinion compared to what he really is, but we see him every day and it is a great atmosphere at the training ground.
--
🗣️ "We laugh and smile at training every day and you can see that in the Amazon video. He has a winning mentality and we all believe he can bring us success and take us to the next level."
--
🗣️ "He has been amazing with us and I will always remember how I felt when he first came to the club and became my manager.
--
🗣️ "It was on an international break when we got the news that [Mauricio] Pochettino was leaving. I was really sad because everyone had a really good relationship with him.
--
🗣️ "Then we have the arrival of a manager who is one of the most successful in football. It was just incredible. The first time I met him, I didn't believe it because I was watching him when I was a kid winning so many trophies. Now I'm working together with him."
--
🗣️ "Now we are together for one year and it has been fantastic. Last season was difficult at times with all the injuries, but we have started this season so well and I just want to keep this feeling and achieve success with him."

#thfc Goal - Son! The South Korean continues his brilliant start to the season after another cute assist for Vinicius. Brazilian headed Doherty's chipped ball into path of South Korean who finished well. 3-0. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1319378872836722695

#thfc FT, 3-0. Job done and a positive night for Spurs, particularly Vinicius's debut. Davies offered food for thought as the left-sided centre-half and Bale showed flashes but doesn't look fully up to speed yet. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1319382701066027009
I* make this:
- Tottenham's first clean sheet since Spurs 3-0 Leicester, 19 July 2020
- Joe Hart's first clean sheet since Burnley 1-0 Brighton, 8 December 2018
- Harry Kane's first game as an unused sub since Spurs 6-1 Rochdale, 28 Feb 2018
Ben Davies (Tottenham Hotspur) - While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg impressed with a warrior-like performance at the base of midfield, Lucas was a constant threat with his dynamism and Vinicius had a strong debut with two assists, the man of the match award has to go to Davies. The stand-in captain was playing out of position at centre-back and produced a brilliant lofted pass from deep to find Vinicius in space when he assisted the first goal before making multiple headers and blocks to thwart any LASK attacks. Spurs may have just signed his international teammate Joe Rodon as centre-back cover, but with the signing of Reguilon taking away Davies' starting left-back role, Davies may start to see more minutes at the centre of defence.
Tottenham get off to a flying start in the Europa League with Lucas Moura and Son-Heung min hitting the back of the net against LASK as Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius make impressive full debuts https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8868039/
7 -- Jose Mourinho rang the changes with Davinson Sanchez, Sergio Reguilon and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg the sole survivors from the 3-3 draw with West Ham, but his side were anything but disjointed in an assured performance.
FW Son Heung-Min, 7 -- He was a constant threat having replaced an exhausted Gareth Bale on the hour-mark and he made it nine goals in eight games this campaign with a tidy finish after an excellent flick from Vinicius.
Replaced Bale around the hour mark and showed why he is one of the best attackers in the world by instantly influencing the game. The South Korean international made numerous runs in behind the backline and eventually scored the third goal.
Tottenham Hotspur (4-3-3): J Hart 7 — M Doherty 6, D Sánchez 6, B Davies 6, S Reguilón 7 — H Winks 5, P Hojbjerg 7 (M Sissoko 61min, 6), É Lamela 6 (D Alli 61, 6) — L Moura 6 (G Lo Celso 78), G Bale 6 (Son Heung-min 61, 7), C Vinícius 7 (J Clarke 86)

Spurs will still be licking their wounds after surrendering a 3 goal lead inside the last 10 minutes against West Ham. Burnley have been limited going forward this season, however, at the back they can be very difficult to break down. Patrick Bamford arrives in the Premier League with a bang while Son Heung-min's partnership with Harry Kane goes from strength to strength... so, who makes top spot in this week's Sportsmail POWER RANKINGS? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8884113/
1. Son Heung-min - up one
From the top of the assist charts to the top of the scoring charts. Son Heung-min, the man who can't stop performing for Tottenham, now has eight Premier League goals this term.
Indeed, four of those came in the 5-2 demolition of Southampton in September - the same game Kane registered four assists - but there is no escaping the claim that Son is the Premier League's most in-form player.
Similar to Kane, there appears to be somewhat of a guarantee that Son will score whenever Spurs take to the pitch.
And you have to wonder how much that rubs off on the opposition. If it's not Kane charging down the middle or holding back to supply a killer pass they're worrying about it's Son and his ability to manoeuvre himself into a goalscoring position from where time and times again he has proven so lethal.

Maybe this one should be a joint effort? The Korean once again combined with Harry Kane for the only goal against Burnley, making it 10 for his own tally and four in the last three league games. Hitting form, to say the least.

#thfc A bad moment for Davies, who was starting to look like an intriguing option at centre-half. It may have been a foul – tight call – but regardless he was dithering and not strong enough. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1321881647692812288
#thfc HT, 1-0. Spurs deservedly trailing at the interval. Davies' mistake for Refaelov's goal exemplified the whole team's approach: dithery, aimless, too slow. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1321885474991034373
HT: Antwerp 1 #THFC 0. Really flat performance from Spurs, but do think that's a little understandable given how many changes have been made. Improvement needed in the second half, and wonder when we'll start to see some subs (reminder that teams can make five in the EL). https://twitter.com/CDEccleshare/status/1321885465088196609
#thfc Bergwijn and Dele among the four players hooked at HT, along with Lo Celso and Vinicius. Safe to say they didn't quite grasp the opportunity as Mourinho intended. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1321890009880973315
Son Heung-min (Steven Bergwijn, 46)
Saw a shot blocked by Seck but that was about it in terms of opportunities until the defender did likewise in stoppage time. Worked hard as ever but couldn't help his side get the crucial goal. 6
Son Heung-Min’s introduction in the second half offered more penetration for Tottenham Hotspur in the final third. The South Korean international got himself good positions, making multiple runs in and around the penalty area. Unlucky not to score.
5 -- While Mourinho's starting XI did serve as proof of the depth that Spurs now have, the setup was slow and fairly lethargic. The Special One really went for it at half-time by making a somewhat ill-advised four substitutions, which precipitated a real lack of cohesion within the team in comparison to their Belgian opponents.

Remember last season? When Spurs were bad, José Mourinho were bad and the squad were doomed to never win a trophy? Yeah, that's not exactly the case these days.
Son Heung-min's eighth goal of the season led Spurs to a 1-0 win over Burnley, making it four goals in his last three games.
Tottenham take on Brighton after a good result on the road against Burnley. Jose Mourinho will have been delighted that his side kept a clean sheet and will go into this aiming for another 3 points.
Brighton have been a bit stop start this season, and I think they might get caught out against a superior side that are very dangerous when going forward. I’m going with a home win for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Harry Kane has probably been the best player in the Premier League this season 💫
Given his incredible all-round displays, we posed the question... if you could clone Kane, how many Kanes would get into a Spurs XI? 🤔
One member of our Spurs podcast picked 5 Kanes - listen to the show for free wherever you get your podcasts 🎙️
4 - Tottenham have won each of their last four home league games against Brighton (including all three in the Premier League), since a 0-1 loss in October 1981. Expectations. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1322976077157982208
That's six goals and eight assists for Harry Kane this season - he's had a hand in more goals than any other player within Europe's top five leagues
#TOTBHA #THFC #bbcfootball https://twitter.com/BBCMOTD/status/1322985041320939521
14 - Harry Kane has been directly involved in 14 goals (six goals & eight assists) after only seven league games this season, the most of any player in Europe's top five divisions (Lewandowksi, 13). Statement. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1322984983531819008
Harry Kane has scored 149 Premier League goals, only 9 players have scored more in the competition’s history. The only player currently active within the league to have scored more in Sergio Agüero (180).
HT 1-0 #thfc A tale of two penalties. Spurs fortunate to get one, Brighton unfortunate not to get one. Brighton finished that half as the better side. Spurs struggling for much attacking rhythm. https://twitter.com/JamesOlley/status/1322992915652792323
HT: #THFC 1 Brighton 0. Spurs glad for the HT whistle. They lead but Brighton have responded really well to going behind and with a bit of cutting edge - or indeed a striker on the pitch - would be on terms.
Expect Mourinho will dish out a bit of a bollocking.
Tariq Lamptey fires home the leveller, and the goal is given after Graham Scott visited the Referee Review Area to check for a possible foul in build-up
The goal's given. #THFC 1 Brighton 1 (Lamptey 56'). Thought it prob was a foul but always feels a bit weird asking the ref to say whether they've made a clear and obvious error. https://twitter.com/CDEccleshare/status/1323000448186417152
7y 166d – Gareth Bale has scored his first Tottenham goal in 7 years & 166 days, last doing so on his farewell appearance for the club vs Sunderland back in May 2013. He scored exactly 200 seconds after entering the pitch. Yardage. https://twitter.com/OptaJoe/status/1323004952764100610
FT 2-1 #thfc Bale comes off the bench to grab the winner. First headed goal for Spurs since October 2012, only scored six in his first spell at the club. Mourinho said he was a different type of player second time around. Maybe that's a small indication. https://twitter.com/JamesOlley/status/1323009956602413056
Mourinho on Bale: "Mourinho: "He doesn't have 90 minutes in his legs yet. We are using the Europa League to get him minutes and when we can in the Premier League. He is of course getting better and better and better." https://twitter.com/AlasdairGold/status/1323019980611424256
Mourinho on Lo Celso: "He missed the end of last season and pre-season, needs to get fitter. You could see when he played in the centre on Thursday. Needs fitness. Can he and Tanguy play together? Yes, but they need to both be fitter for that to happen." https://twitter.com/AlasdairGold/status/1323021368305340416
#thfc FT, 2-1. Spurs earn a first home win in the PL this season thanks to Bale's first goal for the club since May 2013. It was a great moment in a game that would otherwise have been all about the refereeing decisions. https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1323009810636394496
#thfc Mourinho says referee Graham Scott should have to explain his decision not to rule out Lamptey's goal after monitor review.
"He should explain but I know that's not going to happen so let's move on and talk about a very difficult match that we won." https://twitter.com/Dan_KP/status/1323021969558786050
Jose says Tanguy had to play "with fear" after booking + then Lo Celso brought back that dynamism when he came on. Tho adds GLC needs to improve his fitness levels after missing out on pre-season. Says Ndombele and Lo Celso can play together, but both need to be fully fit #THFC https://twitter.com/CDEccleshare/status/1323020965765357568
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Spurs) - Since joining Spurs from Southampton in the summer for a bargain fee, Hojbjerg has given them a winning combination of grit and composure at the base of their midfield. The no-nonsense Dane always works impressively hard while making countless tough tackles and interceptions in the centre of the park before using his vision and awareness to lay it off for a teammate. This evening he made 8 ball recoveries and 2 interceptions, while winning 100% of both his tackles and aerial duels and having 89.3% pass accuracy. With him playing like that, Eric Dier better get used to playing at centre back.
PLAYER RATINGS
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris 6, Doherty 6, Dier 6, Reguilon 7, Sissoko 6, Hojbjerg 8, Lamela 6, Son 5, Kane 7...Subs: Lo Celso 7, Bale 7, Davies N/A
Not the best of performances from Son Heung-Min, who was really quiet for the most part of the game. Struggled to create a strong combination play with Harry Kane.
Heung-min Son – 5.5 – One to forget for the South Korean tonight. The ball seemed to bounce off him and Lamptey played him off the pitch. He’s allowed an off night.
Tottenham 2-1 Brighton: Gareth Bale's first goal of his second spell sends Jose Mourinho's side up to second in the Premier League as Welsh winger hits winner after Brighton had controversially equalised https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8897469/
Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Lloris 6; Doherty 5.5, Alderweireld 7, Dier 7, Reguilon 7.5; Sissoko 6.5, Ndombele 6 (Lo Celso 64, 7), Hojbjerg 8; Lamela 6, (Bale 70, 7), Son 6.5 (Davies 85); Kane 7.
