The Japanese Way of Celebration on Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
In Japan, usually we don’t celebrate Halloween, but we do celebrate Christmas. Kids like Christmas because they get presents and eat a huge Christmas cake. Christmas has nothing to do with religion in Japan. It is the festival of eternal love. The holiday is a huge event for young people who have beloved ones, but it means nothing for those who don't have a girlfriend or a boyfriend. Actually, it is the least favorite day of the entire year for single people. There are lots of happy couples in town. If you are single during Christmas time, you feel deeply depressed. Young people don’t want to spend Christmas alone, which is why in December they are trying to find lovers. The sad thing is that by January of next year, lots of couples break up. Why? Because of that they weren't attracted to each other so much from the beginning. Or perhaps they neither had much in common or any respect for each other. The reason for them dating was just an attempt to avoid the loneliness of the Christmas season, that’s all. So if you are looking for a girlfriend or a boyfriend, you had better take your time and make sure that your partner has the same values in life. But unfortunately, if you spend too much time looking for the perfect partner, you will end up spending your whole life alone. So you should think positively! There is another event coming up on February 14th called Valentine's Day. I think in USA men give chocolates or flowers to women when they are in a steady relationship with, but in Japan a girl has to send chocolates to the boy whom she's in love with. There is another tradition practiced only here in Japan. A girl can send chocolate to the guy whom she likes but isn't dating yet. You know Japanese girls tend to be shy and try to conceal their feelings, but only on this day, every girl can have enough courage to express her emotions. So, some shy girls are waiting for this day. If a guy accepts her affection, then on March 14th, which is called, “White Day,” he has to send not only white chocolate or marshmallow but also jewelry to her and invite her to a romantic dinner at an expensive restaurant. This is how we celebrate Japanese Valentine’s day. But, I’m just trying to explain how things are in general. Not every single person is fond of this custom. Some people feel that it’s extremely stupid and criticize it for being too commercialized. People especially criticize a thing called "giri choco." I found good explanation from Wikipedia; ” Giri choco (義理チョコ, literally, "obligation chocolate" in Japanese) is chocolate given by women to men on Valentine's day. It is a relatively cheap type of chocolate women gives to male co-workers, casual acquaintances, and others to whom they have no strong attachment. Giri choco is lower-quality than honmei choco (本命チョコ, expensive chocolates women give to their romantic partners).” Haha, Wikipedia is very useful. I’m always wondering who is writing Wikipedia.
Anyway I also read some articles written by native English. Some people feel resentment against the Japanese way of celebrating Christmas because Christians believe that day is very sacred. However, what I want to say here is that in Japan, we've been taking foreign customs as an event of our life without religious sides. I think that it is a good thing even though superficial. It's good because couples go to dinner and guys buy presents. Girls will buy cosmetics and garments to look pretty. These sales help and boost the economy which will make everyone happy. Nowadays I think that not only Japan but the rest of the world is also ruled by the law of capitalism not by the law of the divine. I think that is good thing because under capitalism every nation is connected in some way, and depends on each other. So we practically don’t have to worry about world WarⅢor some other huge war. Recently, even in the Middle Eastern region, there have been some revolutions to collapse despotic regimes. The world is beginning to unite as one. Of course, I know the uncontrollable greed of the human race is starting to harm Earth's environment. One example is global warming. Currently, our economy is experiencing a recession because of the increasing price of natural resources. However, I believe that scientists from around the world can solve the problem. I think in the near future, scientists will be able to invent some new technologies, like a highly efficient solar panel by using nanotechnology or something. I don't know much about technology but I strongly believe that they will do this in the near future. So, I don't worry too much about our future. What do think?I am so tired.lol

I'm not so sure if the world is beginning to "unite" as one, but I agree the international community is getting closely related these days and affects each other, sometimes in unexpected ways.
The reason I watch U.S. movies and dramas is so that I can enjoy them and at the same time it’s a good way of studying English for me. So, today I would like to introduce a drama called “Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles”. This story describes the story of what happens between Terminator 2 and 3. In Terminator 2, terminator is sent in as a substitute for John’s father but in this drama, the terminator is female. She looks like a school girl, cute and calm, but she is tough enough to fight the enemy. Summer Lyn Glau played the role of “Cameron”, and her acting performance is amazing!! She never laughs and her motion really looks like robot. That, however, is not my main point here. For me, the biggest surprise is one of John's friends "Derek”, he has a tattoo on his chest in Japanese みどりwhich means green and we Japanese sometime use that as a female’s name. I thought he might have a Japanese girlfriend or wife whose name is みどり. I know that in the United States, tattoos are in style. There are lots of people who have them, from famous celebrities like “Angelina Jolie” to normal people. They have tattoos on their bodies with their favorite saying or lots of design patterns like a flower or anything - you name it. Also lots of people engrave their sweetheart’s name on their body as proof of eternal love. However a few months later, I read someone’s blog about Derek’s tattoo. That actor’s name is “Brian Austen Green”. He just tattooed his name on his chest! From the Japanese perspective, this is a little bit beyond our imagination. I would never have expected that. Actually, I found that more astonishing than the ending of the Terminator TV series. Oh, by the way, in Japan tattoos remind us of gang members, but recently in the young generation they tattoo their body as a fashion but I don’t think anyone tattoos their name in their chest. Here I have a question: in the USA, is it common to tattoo your own name on your body?
