I used to not see race. The color of my skin, or anyone else’s skin didn’t matter to me; it never made me think any more or less of anybody.
I saw everyone as equal, not in a sense that we /are/ equal, because some will always be more privileged than others, but because all people SHOULD be treated equally.
But I know that’s not the case.
We are not equal. If we were, there would be no discrimination. No racism. There wouldn’t be Black Lives Matter protests and there wouldn’t be people protesting against Black Lives Matter which shouldn’t even be a question.
Being half, I have had experienced racism and I have been discriminated against. But the color of my skin has never made me fear for my life. I am privileged enough to be able to exercise my freedom of speech without being afraid. I am able to walk, run, take public transportation, go to school, without being afraid.
To everyone attending protests, thank you. To everyone signing petitions, thank you. To everyone donating, thank you. To everyone doing their research, thank you. Thank you for doing what you can. Thank you for contributing.
If you need someone to talk to, I’m here for you— dm me.
We’ll get through this, together. NEVER underestimate what you are capable of. Stay strong. Stay safe.
